Date Night in the Park

Hello everyone!

I want to talk about this video a bit, because it’s different than the stuff we’re used to doing, and I feel like there’s always a need for explanation whenever we try something new. Of course it’s great to try new kinds of videos, but this video isn’t really a new kind for us, because we often just play around with each other on camera, but it’s a different kind of message that we’re focusing on here. Instead of just talking about cool places to see or cool things to eat, I really want people to walk away from this video thinking loving thoughts.

We thought of doing these videos one random midnight. We filled up our picnic basket with some wine and cheese and went down to the park and sat by the water. We saw a sleeping duck. We talked about our lives here in Japan, the things we want to do, where we see ourselves five years from now. We talked about how nice it is that we do these picnics. We’re together all the time, but we still make the effort to make some of our time together more special than others. And then we thought, hey, this is something we want to share with people. We know a few people in rough relationships. We know people whose significant others don’t value them, don’t take care of them. We know relationships where one person is too busy with their career, and where they take their loved one for granted.

I’m hoping that by making videos like this, we can help motivate people to take their loved ones more seriously. You don’t have to take them out to the Ritz or spend a lot of money to do so. A picnic basket with some snacks is nice. And playing with other people’s doggies is really nice, too :D

We ate some other things that didn’t make it in the final video. We’ve got those in the extra scenes below!

  1. I was actually stupidly excited for this video when I saw it pop up. I love seeing you guys as a couple. Even though you’re still goofy and quite the same as you are in any other video, videos like this are really touching and warm and you guys really are #goals. I’m often almost driven to tears hearing how much Simon works to be able to take care of and make Martina happy. Best Duckies ever!!! <<<<<<333333

  2. I really really liked this video. I love seeing you guys being all cute and couple-y, and it fills me up with warm feelings. When Martina was listing the stuff she felt grateful for to Simon I teared up too. There is just something about having that significant other for whom you’d do anything for, and you know that they’d do the same for you. I know that my boyfriend and I won’t be exactly the same as you guys, but I’m hoping to emulate some of the positive ways of existing that I see in the two of you. I used to be a lot more negative and he’s helped me bring out the positive side. You guys have helped, too. Thank you.

  3. A tip for a Dothraki warrior: one of my male colleagues at some emotional moments says, “Oh, my eyes are sweating..” ;)

  5. That must have been a really nice dog. Because he didn’t run from you the second he licked that deet from your faces.
