Driving Through Seoul at Night

Filed as: Living in Korea // Responses: 35

Since we got our new camera, we feel artsy-fartsy every once in a while, like you can see in our Ajosshis video a little while back. Today’s another one of those days that we feel artsy. We were inspired by the scene in Lost in Translation when Bill Murray and Scarlett Johannson are driving through Tokyo at night, and you see the city through their eyes. Know which one we’re talking about? She’s wearing the pink wig and they’re got “Sometimes” by My Bloody Valentine playing in the background? Anyhow, we would like to see some more videos of Seoul at night, but we can’t really find all to many, so we made our own version of it. Martina and I took the taxi home from Seoul, and – hell – Seoul’s so beautiful at night that we had to get it on film. So here it is, our little Homage to Taxi Drivers and Lost in Translation. Hope you like it!

Dear Martina and Simon, I am incredibly inspired by your adventures! How long have you guys been married// how old were you both when you got married?

    Thanks!

    • http://intensedebate.com/profiles/eatyourkimchi eatyourkimchi

Thanks! We've been married for little over three years now, and we got married when we were 24. Yeah!

    Dear Martina & Simon,
You are so inspiring to me. I've watched every one of your videos & I have a lot on my ipod. ^-^ When I get older, I plan to be an ESL teacher too, so thanks for all the information and the laughs!
Also, Martina, I love your drawings! The website looks great guys! I was so surprised to see it all different! ^-^

    P.S. I <3 Spudgy!!!

  • Bri

I have question too, since Michelle (above) asked one. I was wondering if you have a lot of Korean friends?

    • http://intensedebate.com/profiles/eatyourkimchi eatyourkimchi

Thanks! Glad you like our videos! As for Korean friends, we don't have a lot, but we have some, and the Korean friends we have are really, really good friends to us.

  • Bri

You guys should do a vid from Canada! ^-^

    • eatyourkimchi

We're working on one! Getting a new lens tomorrow, and we'll shoot some footage with it. Huzzah!

Hey Simon and Martina! I was wondering if you both majored in Education and/or English? I'm not majoring in either, but I plan to move to Korea after I graduate and I think teaching English is the only way to go for me in the job front… can I get some sort of certification in Korea?

Random: Martina, I don't like tiramisu either! I don't get the hype about it… =P

    • eatyourkimchi

We both majored in English and then got our Bachelor's of Education as well. As for certification in Korea, we don't know much about that, apart from doing online certification programs.

  • Bri

What do you think is a better major to go into if you plan on doing ESL: english or linguistics?

    • eatyourkimchi

I'd recommend linguistics. We both studied English and it was mainly English literature that we studied, and we don't teach any literature here. I (Simon) took one Linguistics course and it's helped me tremendously in teaching here.

  • Bri

Ok, thanks! This is a big help to me. You guys really help me a lot. I'm really glad I got to see the private vs. public school vid!

    • eatyourkimchi

      No problem!

Really thanks guys, how long are you going to stay S.Korea?

    • http://www.eatyourkimchi.com Eatyourkimchi

Thanks Jin! As to how long we're staying in S.Korea, we don't know, because every year we plan to stay for just one year, and when it's up we always decide to stay another. We might never leave! Who knows.

Hello! I just wanted to say that I adored this video… I actually was a exchange student in S.Korea (Around the Ilsan-Paju area) and it was gorgeous and I'm hopefully going back again this summer…. This video is probably my favorite as that is EXACTLY how SKorea is at night… Traffic and people waiting. :)
Thank you for bringing me back to Korea, if only for 2 minutes. :) I miss it terribly!
