IT’S THE GREATEST WTF EVARRRR! I love arts and crafts, I love cute things, and I love Etude House makeup…nothing can go wrong! Does anyone else find that arts’n’crafts are a great happiness inducing therapy for you?

Hokay. So here’s the deal, this was actually really hard to find because it is just a limited edition freebie. It took a lot of running around to different Etude House locations to find it in stock. I just could just kick myself because I saw this kit come out before I left for Bali and I was like…”hmm that’s really cute…I’ll look into it when I come back” but I didn’t realize it was a free giveaway. So if you buy the BB Cream Mineral Cushion (or in this case I bought the mint green cream since I already own the BB Cream Cushion) it just comes with this awesome DIY decoration pack FOR FREE! FOR FREEEEEEE! *dances in the wind* Frankly, I would have paid extra just to have this decoration kit…hahahah suckers! I realized I spent most of my time excitedly decorating the makeup compact and I didn’t even tell you about the makeup at all. I was just like LET’S DO ITTTTTTTT.

So yes, this makeup is indeed green. It’s a green mint coloured cream that is made for applying to your face like a base under your BB Cream/foundation. This is straight up colour theory here. Have you ever tried to cover an angry red zit with skin coloured cover up and it didn’t work? That’s because a skin colour makeup doesn’t actually neutralize the colour red. So first apply a mint green to your red patches (like my nose and cheek zone and sometimes my jawbone) and then I add my skin coloured BB Cream all over. It’s MAGIC MAGIC MAGICCCCC. OHMOOHMOOHMO…OHMOOHMOOHMO… *dances to Secret*

So I also have the cushion kit in the BB Cream format. So normally BB Cream is bought in tube format and you just squeeze it out onto your hands or use a sponge to spread it about. If you don’t know what BB Cream is, I did a review on a several different brands which you can watch here. The BB Cream cushions are a big trend in Korea right now, and every brand has their version of it. I find that the BB cushions are great but for light coverage only. It doesn’t cover all your flaws like the squeeze tube variety does.

In fact, if you’re a dude that wants to try out BB Cream, it will really help to even out your skin colour and get rid of those red blotches on your skin. It isn’t as intimidating as something like BB Cream in the tube since you can’t screw up and apply too much. Before we film Simon uses the BB Cream cushion now and it looks a lot more natural than when he tried to apply the squeeze tube variety. I’m sure you’ve seen some videos where Simon looks vampire white only up to his neck. Hahahaha! My Big Toasted Coconut doesn’t match my Pale Vampire Skin tones!

So I have a theory that the reason these cushions result in a lighter coverage is because the compact is made with a sponge that is soaked in BB Cream. It seals airtight so that the makeup doesn’t dry up and it comes with a very fine applicator sponge which you have to dab onto the BB Cream soaked sponge. Sponge on sponge action doesn’t really result in copious amounts of BB Cream so you can apply it to your skin in a much lighter way. So I use my squeeze BB Cream when I have a whole day out but when I’m just looking for a little light coverage like when I’m at the airport or if I’m on a road trip it’s great to just pop in your bag.

So that’s it for my DIY candy compact kit! This was super fun and it totally matched the amazing fan-made cellphone case I already have (which I totally adore, thanks again ^^). If anyone has done anything similar please share some pics of your final product with us! Also, dudes and ladies that aren’t into makeup, do you think you’d consider trying out this BB Cream cushion? Let me know!

  1. Martina, do you plan to do any more hair tutorials like you did a while back? I’d love to know how to do this double-side-braid thing you’re rocking in this video.

  4. Martina! You look so refreshed from your trip to Bali! I will be going to Korea shortly, so I was just wondering, how is the rang of skin color in Etude House’s BB Creams? I just wanna know in case I have to bring a stock worth of Foundation with me, haha

  6. Hey dooders! If you’re in Korea and you’re looking for this promo, the Etude across from Kkachisan (까치산) station has stock available still. They also have the other choice of flowers if you don’t want such a colorful decoden. They also have a deal for members in which you can choose the decoden kit or take off 8,000won (but no kit). I just bought the Rosy Beige Precious Mineral Any Cushion with the kit and this will be my project tomorrow evening *squee* Thanks for the video Martina!

  7. As soon as I saw this I freaked out and called around to all of the Etude Houses in my area and they all said the promotion is over *ugly sobs*

I suppose I could just buy a decoden kit off gmarket…but I’m lazy.

  8. I think by “decodaen” they’re trying to say decadent.

  11. I love Etude House’s Any Cushion. I bought one when I was living in Korea, and it came with one refill, but now that I’ve used it up, I don’t know how to get more, since I’m back in America, and I don’t think Etude House is in America. I’ve wanted to try the different types of cushions they have (I’ve only used the original version), but that’ll be a while. *sigh* I WAS hoping you’d review the actual makeup, but this was still fun to watch. Now if only they had that freebie online… >.>

  14. I saw this last month and it is so cute! The bb cushion sure is easier for touch up than using the bb cream. Just that they dried up if left on its own and not use.

  15. It’s a bit strange they call it decoden. “Deco” would be fine. You did a great job! I find deco-ing stuff to be very therapeutic :3

I wasn’t that impressed with the Etude House BB Cushion I’ll be honest, but I’m a bit more sore about it since in China they seriously hike up the price on foreign makeup. Plus I wasn’t aware how little coverage it provides (and I need full coverage) so it lasted me a month before it dried up. In Shanghai I paid $30 for it ($12 mark-up on Korean prices) The refill alone costs $18 :| Needless to say I’ve decided that buying online and waiting a couple weeks is better than having the physical store at my convenience if it means paying significantly less for the same products.

  16. That is so cuuuute~ (But of course, it’s Etude House!)
‘Decoden’ is right. That’s what that style is called in Japan! Just like your phone!

  17. I’ve been looking at this any cushion for the longest time but never found reviews of it that would help me decide if I want or not. Thanks to you, Martina, I finally know what I wanted to know! I already knew that green “kills” red, but for some reason I wasn’t sure if this cushion was the only step or if bb cream/ foundation was needed afterwards hahaha I feel a bit stupid now that I thikk about it x).
And now I’m also sad because of the limited edition of the decoden box :( I wish it wasn’t limited. I want one. I want to make cute decos like you did :(. Oh well!
Please continue making videos about make-up! You look so happy doing that plus it’s always useful information for us! :) ♡♡♡

    • You can use bb cream on top of bb cushion afterwards or can just apply a few layers of bb cushion to get more coverage. Etude House sure comes up with really cute cosmetics.

  18. I saw your end result on instagram first and immediately thought it was a cupcake. YUM! You’re so good at decorating!

And I too demand more makeup/girly videos! Seeing how giddy Martina is in this one makes me happy :)

  21. I LOVED THIS WTF!!! I love Etude House already and to hear they offer a decoden kit just *drools*

Also btw, Decoden actually is from the really popular (and cute) Japanese trend where they decorate your phone case with all those 3d cute stuff (like what was in the box!) The ‘deco’ obviously stands for decoration, while the ‘den’ comes from “Denwa”, meaning phone in Japanese ^^
