So, here was the original plan…

We had busted our butts to get Music Monday finished an entire day early. It involved a total lack of sleep and a copious amount of coffee, but we were doing it so that we could have a glorious WANK with our friends in Ansan (you might remember them from our Wonder Girls “Be My Baby” review. Since traveling to Ansan would take up a little bit of our time and we’d have to bring Spudgy, we thought we’d need an extra day to get home, edit, and have the WANK up for Wednesday. After finishing Music Monday a day early, we arrived in Ansan and decided to go out for dinner in celebration! YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!

So, after some yummy Dak Galbi and bottles of soju, we went over to D-Day (in downtown Ansan), which is one of the coolest…bars? Clubs? I don’t know what it would be considered, but it’s a really cool place. Basically, you sit down with your friends at your own personal table in this huge area. You eat and drink and talk, kind of like a restaurant, just one that is very poorly lit. Anyhow, what makes this place special is that every 45 minutes or so, the music changes to danceable music, and it becomes a super amazing dance party time, and everyone gets up and dances in the aisles! There is no designated dance floor! We had an awesome time hopping around like awkward foreigners (seriously, we were like the only 4 foreigners there in a room that had close to 200 people) and making new Korean friends. When we requested T-ara’s “Roly Poly” Simon and I were cheered on with our T-ara dance skills. Ah yes dancing, the international language.

What is really interesting about Korean clubs, is that sometimes everyone will dance freestyle, but then once in a while a WHOLE TON of people get up and do an organized line dance…which totally blew our minds since we had no idea what was going on.

Martina Busted her Ankle

Martina Busted her Ankle

So how did Martina end up on crutches? Although she would love to say it was from doing something heroic or extreme, Martina was simply jumping around while dancing to a super peppy song and she landed on someone’s foot as they were squeezing behind her, and her ankle just rolled out and she hit the ground hard. However, she got right back up and got back to dancing. Probably because of the adrenaline (*cough* partially because of the soju) she didn’t feel how badly she had damaged her foot. Next morning, though, was a different story. With no more music, no more fun, no more distractions, cold, hard pain kicked in, and she knew she had done something nasty to her foot. Ooooh ankle, you so nasty!

We brought her to the hospital in Ansan to get it checked. She was extremely happy she had packed her matching purple Taeyang socks because normally Martina just wears any two socks she finds. The X-rays don’t show a clear fracture, but they said they couldn’t be sure without an MRI. So they put this splint/half cast on Martina and told her to keep it elevated and rested. Since we don’t have health insurance here in Korea, the whole process of us going in, getting X-rays, doctor check ups, and a splint, all cost 340,000 won. Not too bad, I think. Also, having a brief Korean conversation with the super awesome nurse that was helping her, Martina was delighted to be called 누나 noona for the first time. She was like, seriously excited and began singing SHINee…NOOOOONA YOU’RE MMMVVVVVVPPPP!!! She is far too chipper for an injured person…love you snuggle berry!

Bad news is we can’t really go out adventuring for our WANKs now, because Martina is barely mobile. The best we can do is to have mini-WANKs, in which we go to a restaurant in the area and show you some of the food. We’re going to call it the Food Adventure Program aka F.A.P. We initially thought of calling it the Fun and Productive Food Adventure Program For Awesome People, but that would be too long of a name. So we’re keeping it shorter. Also, Martina might be sitting down for Kpop Music Mondays, which sucks, because she should be jumping around, as it looks like Big Bang’s “Blue” is going to win. Ah well! At least it’s not an icy snowy crutch-deathtrap outside, and in a couple weeks Martina will have buff upper arms! YES!

ToFebruary
  1. 340,000 Won, compared to 3,400 USD (or there-a-bouts)… such a big difference!

  2. Hey, if Miss A’s Suzy and Shinee’s Minho can perform sitting down, then so can Martina! Feel better soon!

  3. Hope you get better Martina!  Noona neumu yeppo~ micheo~ Replay Replay Replay XD

  4. Well..at least you we’re already partying ^.^
I sprained my ankle last year carnival, right before I was supposed to meet my friends and yeah..hurt like hell. Didn’t stop me from walking around for the next few hours. Oh the regret the next day LOL

    Get well soon!!

  6. Martina get better! Don’t worry! There’s no dance in Blue! jajajaaj <3

  7. Even though she gets buff arms, she’ll have a weak ankle :(
    Hope Martina gets well!

  8. Aww, well feel better soon! I think you’re handling it really well. ^_^ I’m a huge baby when it comes to pain so it’s fun to see you fussing over painted toenails and such. And also, you guys are probably the cutest and sweetest couple of all time ever. Loved the ending. <3

  9. Don’t worry about how you got injured; I twisted my ankle while stepping off a hugh pavement while traveling in TUNISIA haha and still having 7 days to go walking on my injury and putting ice on it every night. I was also having the tourista and could barely eat anything.

You know, sometimes, it just happens! XD Don’t be embrrassed by it :P

  10. Whoa, Martina, get well soon! ^^
I think I have studied ankle fractures this year T_T But I’m not a physiotherapist… yet.

  11. rofl buff arms epic. Said this on youtube but imma say it again. Get well soon Martina! Simon and Spudgy has your back! :D

  12. I have two suggestions for chairs I think you’ll love Martina: one T.O.P.’s chair he sits in in the “Turn It Up Loud” MV and two the butt chair he sits in in the “Knockout” MV. You know the ones. I hope it’s a tiny fracture and it heals quickly!

  13. aww… poor Martina!  hang in there! but i think you’re in good hands
with your Dothraki man-slave there…. feel better!

  14. Get better soon Martina!! We love you <3

  15. Aw! I hope you feel better Martina! 언니 화이팅!

  16. I recommend Operation Proposal! :D

  17. It’s okay :) You guys never disappoint with anything, Martina feel better…! Hope everything goes alright, and don’t start getting grouchy when you can’t do all the things you want, your health is first :D

  18. OMG We live in Ansan!!!! (but obviously haven’t lived here long enough)—- Is D-Day in Jungang?? EPIC!!! I’M GOING NOOOW!!!  I’ve been to that hospital, and my husband almost passed out there when they took his blood (and couldn’t pee in the 3 cups for an hour. haha), and our boss was like, “Oh my, what kind of weaklings have I hired?!?!”

  19. oh no! lmao @ Simon : Dothraki Man Slave!

    Get better Martina! Fighting :)

  20. Sounds like a Music video!
    JYJ In Heaven?
    FT Island Severely?
Scent of a Woman when she crossed the street and he TOTALLY SAVED HER?
    hmmmm.

  21. Whenever my daughter and I watch KPop performances & someone is hurt & can’t dance, we always joke about the chair they are stuck sitting in. We call it their “Pimp Chair.” So, Martina….get yourself a Pimp Chair!

  22. Oh no! Crowded dance floors are dangerous! One of my teachers broke her ankle while dancing. She wasn’t wearing heels, either. (Then again, this happened about a month after she got her cast removed for… breaking that same ankle.) No sir, the dance floor is not a friend to ankles.

Anyway, I really hope your ankle heals soon! (But in the meantime? MILK IT FOR ALL IT’S WORTH XD)

  23. Things you can do while immobile:
    1) Call all your dear ones and have a nice long chat
    2) If you run out of people you know, call random strangers and ask them how their refrigerator is doing
    3) Create a list of all the things you could have done if you could walk, then just sit back and relax because your husband has to do them now
    4) Think of ways to make your apartment ankle-twist free

  24. MARTINA! My nurse gave me some good advice for crutches when I had knee surgery. First, don’t press them against your armpits because you can damage your nerves there. Instead, pretend your an olympian and use your arm muscles to hold yourself up a couple inches above the top of the crutch!

  25. Get well soon Martina! I’ve broken my foot before, and it’s definitely super lame.
This episode of WANK was so sweet, thank you guys for making it!
I’m looking forward to the FAPing!  >_< Maybe you could do an episode about your favorite jajangmyeon?
    Fighting! <3

  26. When I had knee surgery and was on crutches for 3 months i wrapped faceclothes (and taped) then around the armpit things on the crutches, it made me not get the bruises from them… This is not reccommended for the hand bars, because the cloth can turn and make you lose balance.
Hope your on both feet again soon, feel better.

  27. Get better soon Martina! Make sure you get lots of rest!

  28. AWWWWW. I had major sad face while watching this. Totally been there! I was on crutches for a month and a half before high school started. It is rough!!! I must suggest you take this time to watch dramas out the wazoo!!! (I’m currently watching “Protect the Boss”. It’s lol-tastic. :D

  29. Feel better Martina!!! im praying for you to recover :D
    Fighting!!!

  30. I’m really sorry Martina hurt her ankle.  I did something like that several years ago.  I was playing volleyball in a gym with some people and I jumped up.  When I came down, I came down on the side of my foot somehow and rolled.  I heard a pop, but later we found out it wasn’t broken.  I don’t know what the pop was, but I had crutches for three weeks.

Meanwhile, I’ve heard Korean hospitals are really great and efficient.  My friend gave birth in Korea two years ago and she said the hospital where she had her baby was excellent and they treated her really well and took great care of her.

  31. is it wrong of me to find it hawt when simon gets all mushy and kissykissy??
i need a mushykissykissy like simon!! **is jealous** :D

*ahem* anyways, martina, i fully understand about the bruising under your arms and on your hands!! i recommend covering the crutches with some foam and material….pad them up! that really helps, believe me!!  tho don’t actually rest right under your armpits with the tops of the crutches, apparently putting all that pressure on them isn’t good. you’re more supposed to support the crutches on the sides of your torso (like, just under the pit area) and carry most of your weight on your arms…tho the bruising REALLY DOESN’T HELP!! get a rolly chair for moving around at home!!
anyways, get simon to find some cute materials (a t-shirt/baby clothes would be perfect) and foam and decorate those crutches into FLUFFY AND PUFFY!! ^_^

    heal up quick!!  ♥

ps. the spudgy is the adorablest!! just sayin’!

  32. have a quick recovery Martina ^_^ hugs

  33. Martina pipm this chair like Minho here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZC2nFxaPrs :)
    and take care! :)

  34. Oh noes! Martina! You must be careful! T.T Making all of us worry! :P Although it was nice to wake up this morning and find there are other people in the world having pitty parties, because I definitally have been too >.< Ever had your wisdom teeth out? YEAH NO FUN! So I understand that your going through pain because I am too ^^ But your armpits shouldn't hurt so much…. try a different technique for hobbling around and see if that helps… best of luck!

  35. hope you get better martina! at least you get to play crutch wars with your crutches and other various fun things with crutches.. (slightly wanting a pair of crutches now ;P).
don’t trip over spudgy and roll your other ankle!

  36. Get better Martina. Feel so sorry for you…Simon, leave her alone, spoil the injured wife! LOL!.

  37. Awwww hope she’s OK. Get better soon Martina.

  38. we all hope you get better martina

  39. When you are using crutches, they are to be a palm width from your armpit, 2-3 inches to the left and right away from your feet and 2-3 inches in front of you. Crutches are not for carrying all you weight, but to take the weight off of you legs, so use some of your upper body strength………………….GET WELL SOON MARTINA, have fun treating Simon like a slave………………..love slave…………..ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
