WANK – Strolling Through Samchungdong, Seoul

Welcome everyone to our second episode of Wonderful Adventure Now Korea, aka WANK, where we travel around different parts of Seoul and Korea and do our own Variety Show kind of thing, minus the big budget, mega stars, and lots of cameramen. In other words, it’s just a freaking vlog, but in Korea!

Today we go to Samchungdong, which is a place we always find ourselves going to, because it’s awesome, but it’s not that popular. Most people go to Insadong, which is, like, THE tourist spot to check out. We’ve been there a couple of times, but – really – after a while it gets boring. Don’t get us wrong! It’s a really nice place if you want to pick up souvenirs and other things before you head back to your home country, but if you’ve been living here for a while, like we have, Insadong doesn’t really have many things to offer (or are we wrong here? Maybe there are some parts that we’re just unaware of?).

If you cross the street from Insadong, though, you can get to one of our favourite parts of Korea: Samchungdong. It’s a really cool little artsy, romantic place. It’s got some cool coffee shops (which we’ve done videos for), really nice dessert places, cool art galleries, and is just overall oh so pretty. Honestly, most of the times that we go out on a date night, we end up going to Samchungdong.

That being said, it’s not all too tourist friendly, compared to Insadong. Finding Engrish was very difficult, because finding ENGLISH was difficult, as was finding a Korean idol advertisement to take a picture with. Samchungdong is a very indie kind of area, still not overrun with big franchise shops everywhere, and maintains a charm to it as a result.

Anyhow, we can’t recommend it highly enough, and it’s constantly one of the places we tell people to visit when they come to Korea. Make sure you take the time to check it out if you haven’t already!

And on that note, this video turned out to be pretty darned loooong. We had to cut out a lot of it, or else it would have been a bagillion-minute movie. Those extra scenes we’ve put in the bloopers. Check em out!
