WTF – Automatic Fake Jump Ropes

Hello again from Germany! It’s the day before our German event for the Ooh Euro Nasty Tour and we’ve got another video to publish. Hooray for publishing two videos this week! Next week we might have…THREE! Ha!

Anyhow, here’s another fun WTF item Soo Zee found for us. Jump ropes…without ropes. Whut? Product review: they’re not good. You totally lose out on the sensation of jump roping. Part of the rhythm to jumprope is hearing the rope hit the ground, hearing the whoo whoo whoo as the rope whizzes above your head. It keeps you jumping in rhythm, helps you follow a pattern. This thing, though, gave none of that experience. It’s just the weight you feel in your hands, the momentum of the string, but that’s about it. It’s also difficult to keep the movement going. One hand moves faster than the other. Getting hands and feet to sync…no good.

Altogether, this thing was a bit odd. I’m sure some people are better at it than I am, the way I’m better at hula hooping than Martina. Fun fact: Martina can’t hula hoop. She doesn’t know how to. I tried teaching her, but she just couldn’t get it right. I assume it’s the same with me and this jumprope thingy.

If you’d like to pickup this thing right here, you can pick it up on Gmarket, or you can just get a regular jumprope and cut off the rope and use the handles. Think of it as diet jumprope :D

  1. Aw Simon, 2:21-24. Maybe you’re a late bloomer?

  2. I’m probably one of the most uncoordinated people IN THE WORLD. Which is really weird because I have decent balance and my hand-eye coordination is actually great(video games and piano for the win!… Nonetheless, I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER been good at jumproping, hulahooping or anything of the sort. Maybe this would help… I always liked jumproping, I was just obnoxiously terrible at it because I’d always fall on my face because of the rope, that or hit someone with it(whether by accident or not is irrelevant… >.>). So this might actually be a useful thing. I like that it counts your jumps and tells you how many calorie you’ve burned. Pretty cool, to be honest.

  3. I used to be able to hula hoop, then as I’ve gotten older and stiff as a board, I can’t seem to remember anymore! TT_TT And I might like this thing but I think I’ll just stick to dancing, hehe.

  4. I just saw these for the first time last week at my gym! I do think they are for people who are too uncoordinated for a real jumprope, or in the case of the class I was taking, people who are too tall/short for the ones provided. Also want to give you props for providing the slo-mo everyone was going to do for themselves anyway ;)

  7. You guys should try going through actual jumproping motions. Maybe if you guys do the bigger jumps like Simon did, it’ll work better? :)

  8. LOL! Simon, you are shameless in trying to get more male fans! ;). I agree that it’s a weird product but I guess that if you’re not co-ordinated or chairbound, it might motivate you to exercise your wrists? Certainly, it is safer than those old skip-a-thon jump ropes with the plastic sections that just whack the backs of your legs when you miss XD My Mom used to have a jump rope with ball bearings in the handles so that the twirling was super smooth, don’t know if you can still get those, jumping rope is still a great exercise where the equipment is cheap :)

Anyways, I just wanted to mention that LINKS WORK AGAIN! w00t! Both on the blog and the kpop charts! Well done Developper Rose!

    • AH YES! I forgot to tell you! She just fixed it a few days ago. I’m glad the links work. Do the playlists from our older videos work as well?

      • (Developer Rose here) :’) THANKS! <3 And thanks to you again for bringing the problem to light, yay computer science!

  9. It seems about as useful as a Skipit, although those were pretty fun until you cracked an ankle.

  10. Yeah, those looked like they really didn’t work; the jumping and spinning don’t match up at all. If you are going to jump with a ropeless jumprope, I feel like you should just stand and jump up and down without anything.

  11. I think a huge issue is that you guys are spinning the handle ropes much faster than you’re actually jumping. So it counts each spin of the ropes to be a jump, but that’s just not true. It takes a lot more coordination, rhythm, and overall athleticism to actually jump rope…. So my vote is for the real thing. Specifically, the ones with all the plastic beads on them so they give a really satisfying SMACK every time they hit the ground like in 4th grade gym class :D

    • I loved those! And at the same time, they were my mortal enemy. I’m not cursed with fantastic coordination. :P Plus, I thought the beads would break XD

    • We feel a lot better when we publish videos. It’s like things are normal again. When we don’t upload anything we don’t know what day of the week it is, where we are, what the meaning of life is…
