Capsule Toy Sushi Restaurant

So, I think we got so caught up in trying to win a capsule toy that we forgot to be semi-informative here. Ha! The place we went to is called Kura Sushi, and they’ve got a bunch of locations. Our friends here know about Kura as well. When we told them about the conveyor belt sushi with capsule toys they said “OH I GO TO KURA SUSHI ALL THE TIME!” so it’s not just a local thing for us in Kichijoji. And the prices there aren’t that bad, if you think about it. We had 25 plates of sushi, 4 of which were single pieces and the rest were double, so we’re looking at 45 pieces of sushi altogether, plus a crab shell thingy, plus half an apple mango, plus a green tea, plus a soybean ice cream. All for roughly $45. Not bad! Oh: and we got one capsule toy with four heaping servings of disappointment. But those weren’t included on the bill :D

We also came at a good time, on a Tuesday at 2PM or so. It was pretty dead. We tried going on a Thursday night at 7PM a couple of weeks ago and it was AN HOUR AND A HALF LINEUP. Damn! It was so busy! I’d recommend going in the afternoon. That’s best.

The menu also had loads of stuff that we didn’t try, simply because we wanted sushi plates, but they serve curry and ramen there as well. We’ll try it out next time we go and let you know what it’s like. We won’t put all of our hope into getting capsule toys. We just had to win one or else we’d have gone mad. MAAAAAD. Next time we’ll be more calm, I swear!

Anyhow, if you feel like watching some more, we’ve got extra scenes here below. Yay!

  1. Here in SoCal, the restaurant is called Kula and it gets crowded here too. Same type of ordering pad, dual belt delivery system and dish insertion. But their is a guaranteed capsule prize every 15 dishes and just like your crab dish, certain dishes don’t qualify for game play. Also, we ate 31 game dishes plus 3 additional dishes and it came out $90.00. So much cheaper in Japan.

  2. I just saw another video with this restaurant/ restaurant chain on the youtube channel ” Life where i’m from ” and it seams there are even tables that loose after 35 plates :/

  3. Dear Simon and Martina,
Can you guys please tell us what your secret door in your Korean studio was about? Love your videos!

  4. I love going there! You don’t have to wait to slide 5 plates in all together, you can just do it willy-nilly and it will still do the game ^^

The one in my town isn’t as new and updated though…the electronic menu is the old style touch screen that doesn’t register being touched sometimes >.>

  5. O_O the Editing Sheep was busy for this one lol! Thanks for the laughs, Guise!!! Martina you look great: as much as you hate lettuce, the benefits are clearly visible ^_^ Go, Martina!!
Simon, where did you get that cross body strap bag? You used to have an olive green one too. Very cool & I totally want one!

  6. Hey! Great Video!
Could you guys make a video comparing what I call the ‘honeymoon months’ of Japan and Korea? These are usually the few months where everything is still fun and magical and all the flaws of the country don’t really seem to be present. Has it been easier to transition? Which language barrier was harder? What are some best things that happened in each of these time periods that made you really happy to be there that you can recall? Etc. etc. etc.

    • Oh noes, my IPad didn’t show that the first one loaded so I hit the submit button again… And *sigh* I’m such an embarrassment to myself.

supposedly it’s good manner to eat sushi with the fish on your tongue and the rice up because that’s a sign of respect to the chef but it also differs in regions

    • That and the soy sauce + wasabi is supposed to compliment and enhance the flavour of the fish, not completely obliterate it. It’s a sign of respect of the quality of the sushi and skills of the chef that prepared it. Even if it is a ‘fast food’ sushi place, it’s a respect thing – but you definitely wouldn’t want to do that in a high-end sushi restaurant. Dipping the rice side would also cause it to fall apart in the sauce, creating a naaaasty mess. :(

  13. This was a really great FAP FAP. It had everything; sushi, capsule toys, a video arcade game and of course Simon & Martina. It was so fun to watch. The sushi looked yummy. I’m with Simon on the wasabi to soy sauce ratio. If you don’t feel the pain your not doing it right…..(wait..what?)Yeh, you heard me.lol Thanks for another great video. You guide are the best.

  14. Ah… capsule toys and food! My bf and I would probably go to eat enough sushi for a toy.

Also, it’a a lot better than going to a certain notorious one that he really wants to go to….

  15. If my husband and I ever go to Japan and we run into you two we should go here. My husband can EAT sushi!

  16. Ahh, I missed the sexy Xia music. You guys have not used that in a long time!

  17. That place would be so bad for me! I would eat and eat and eat trying to get toys. I would also probably stop in all the time to get new toys if I managed to win. I really like the plate slide for some reason. I’m not sure why but it kind of makes me a little happy inside sending plates down a chute. I would likely be the weird person in the restaurant pretending the plates were talking as I’m sending them down.

    VICTORYYYYYY

I was actually worried for a brief moment that you guys wouldn’t win any and Martina would just be a sad little pumpkin.

  19. I am first again!!! Capsule toys and sushi restaurants mixed together are a dangerous combo. They usually pull you in to spending more than you need to but we don’t have them here in Texas unfortunately lol
