Driving Through Korea

For those of you who have been following us since the good old days, you might remember us doing artsy fartsy videos from time to time. We haven’t really done that many lately. Here’s one of them, after quite a long time :D

Basically, on this giant road trip we went on in the end of August, we pretty much kept the cameras rolling non-stop, not only when we were filming for specific WANKs and FAPFAPs, but also just capturing the scenery. Driving back from Yeosu on our last day was crushingly gorgeous. Mountains everywhere, blue skies, and empty roads. We had a great time driving. Well, I should say, IIIII had a great time driving. I drove until I got tired and switched with Martina, right at the border to Seoul. Then she got stuck in the worst traffic on the way back. We drove something like 8 km an hour for an hour. It was brutal.

You might also notice some pictures from videos we haven’t released yet. One of them is coming for tomorrow’s FAPFAP, which I’m not sure how we’re going to publish, since we’re gonna be flying on a plane all of tomorrow. We’ll find some time to publish, though! Till then, here’s a pretty little video we made. I hope you like it, and you’re ok with us doing random stuff like this from time to time :D

And now, back to packing! We should probably pack well in advance of our trips. We always want to, but hell: we never do.

  1. This makes me want to go on a round trip now!! Seems amazing to drive around the country and seaside, even though it can be tiring.

  2. That was the chillest roadtrip video I’ve ever seen, for real. Must have taken bloody forever to edit, so mad props to Leigh for that.

Where do you guys source your music? Do you look for royalty free stuff or do you just pay? I was really digging the music there.

    • We’ve bought some music, use some free libraries, and also Leigh has her sources (which she refuses to divulge) :D

  3. Lee you got some mad skills going through all that footage and putting together this video.
Looks like you all had so much fun.

  6. Did anyone figure out what the song used was yet? I want to drive around SoCal listening to it. Maybe I’ll do a time lapse video, too!

  7. Omg, Jeonju train station! I had breakfest at that Dunkin Donuts by the entrance there when I was traveling around! Awesome bibimbap to be had down by the palace in the Hanok village. It was funny. I was the only one who showed up for the free english guided tour of the palace. so the guide showed my around for a full hour! She even took a pictude of me by the gate where they filmed the movie Gwanghae- I’d post the picture, but I couldnt figure out how XD

I really loved watching the journey! Thanks for sharing.

  9. Wow, I’ve missed these! I have to wonder how many hours of video editing this took though.

  10. Looks like everyone has the same question. Heheh. I myself am actually quite curious as to what the background track is. Care to share? =D

  13. Beautiful! I’ve been watching your old videos and I love the artsy fartsy ones. This is so relaxing to watch. I just went on a short road trip in Tasmania this weekend. I love watching the scenery from a moving car. I actually filmed some bits, I might do this kind of video, not sure yet.
Question: what music did you use? Did you create it? If not did you get permission? I might start Youtube videos but the music thing confuses me. Thanks!

  14. Much Love, Very Happy! Totally better than what I was expecting (aka, Simon making sarcastic comments about poor driving)!!!

  15. I LOVE the artsy fartsy videos!! They are always so beautiful. I’ve always been someone who said “I’m never going on a roadtrip!” (bearing in mind I live in Australia…) but this makes me want to go on one!!

    • Oh man, if you decide to go walkabout let us know! I hear the Great Ocean Road is jaw-dropping…

  18. 안녕하세요. My name is Roisin, I am from North America (17-years-old, third year high school student) and I have many very precious friends in South Korea, many who study EXTREMELY hard and only get 5 hours of sleep a night. Now, I realize your school days are over and you’ve talked briefly about this. HOWEVER, one of the greatest friends I’ve ever had has recently passed away from committing suicide from having to study so hard and she felt as though she just wasn’t going to graduate high school. She wouldn’t make it. So, could you please have a TL;DR that explains a little more about the Korean High School Education System and why it’s so hard. TL;DR PLEASE. And R.I.P Ladies Code and to all of the Korean students, or any students that have given their lives away over the fear of failing and being unsuccessful in their education.

  19. Awesome video! It was nice to see a more wholesome view on Korea – when I was there I was so overwhelmed by the wonderful mountains and scenery. It really is a pretty country! And heeey, heeey! We are soon seeing each other!!! Oslo is waiting for you :D

  20. Did you get this soundtrack off of Youtube?

  21. Lovely video and even lovelier music! Did you make it yourselves or is it a “real” song?

  22. Me being a film student, I spent the whole time trying to figure out how you set up the cameras. Bad ass video and awesome editing! :P

    • Oh my god I thought I was the only one who did that!! Whenever I watch movies I can’t stop thinking about shot composition and pacing. Film nerds unite!

  23. such a cool and nice video!! I really like it.
At one point Simon reminded me of this german rapper called MC Fitti :D because of the combination of beard, glasses and hat.

  25. Ah, a vintage EatYourKimchi video montage; I remember those. This one was particularly lovely. And great taste in music, as always. If you guys ever post the photos of your trip online, I’d love to go through them. There were some gorgeous shots in there.

    • Thank you! For tomorrow’s FAPFAP we’ve got some pictures as a part of the blog post. Hopefully you like em :)

  26. I really like the artsy fartsy videos~.

I’ve also made quite a few videos that included time-lapses, but never as much as this one. I can’t even imagine how big the file size was plus consequential computer lag. @^@

  27. Wow. Such artsy.
I think these kinds of videos are always fun to watch~

  28. This really makes me miss Korea. Should I come back? Is it time? The world may never know.

  29. Cool video! I personally, really like these artsy-fartsy types of videos you do. It is a little……nausea-inducing in its speed if I watch it too closely, but still cool. The mix of animated stills and straight video was really nice and mostly smoothly segueyed. Seems like a lot of driving for 6 days. I guess with the mountains that there are a lot of tunnels but I am really not used to it here in Southern Ontario, did it feel claustrophobic? And Simon! Driving?! I thought that you didn’t have your license even back in Canada, what inspired you to get behind the wheel?

Cyber_3 – at least the slow driving in Seoul was with an automatic transmission, my manual transmission kills my wrists in traffic like that.

    • I do most of the driving in Korea. That’s usually when Martina edits our Instagram pictures :)

      • Makes sense for time management on a long trip. I don’t know if I prefer riding or driving myself, they’re both nice but occasionally both scary XD

  30. uuu, nice. It could be little bit slower, i could watch it 30 or 60 minutes ;D

  31. I have to get up at 4am tomorrow morning to go on a 30 hour non-stop train ride but travelling is worth it, right? your video says, yes it is :)

  32. Beautiful video! It was so fun to watch. And that city with the bronze dolphin in it? I want to go there!

Nice song, too! What’s it called?

  33. Love the video, soooo artsy ;)

The food made me hungry though

  35. A beautiful, fun and silly video!! Have a great time on your trip and safe travels!

  36. Love the video =D I love how you edited timelapse in there as well as photos and regular footage. =D Very artsy fartsy xD

  37. Love the stop-motion-thingy-ish part of the video. You guys have invoked my wanderlust

  38. Maybe you guys should have a suitcase of clothes fully packed waiting way in advanced for your next trip. Hahah. That way, no need to pack. XD

    • I’ve been trying to get Martina to get a set of makeup that she only uses for travel, so she doesn’t have to worry about repacking for a couple of hours every time we travel, but she refuses.

      • Oh, I sent you a mail about the links, still not working. Have fun in Europe!

        • I read your other comment and saw that the video doesn’t work on android. well I have android and it works for me, so try this: when the page first loads, click on the white play button in the center. then a red play button should appear in place of the white one. click on any space of the video OUTSIDE of the red button.

      • That travel kit from Martina’s video seemed pretty complete to me! I think that Martina just likes being a perfectionist when it comes to packing, it’s a girl-thing ;)

      • Do not mess with a girl’s make up, Simon. No point trying also. *pats shoulder* lol
