I finally did it! After contemplating and browsing through pictures for months and months I finally decided to get a side shave. Now I know it’s a pretty dramatic look and for some people it can seem daunting and worrisome to work with this hair style, but I’m hoping this video will shed some light on those concerns. I didn’t just want to do a “look! it’s a time lapse of my haircut” video, but also a practical “how to work with the hair” after the whole haircut is done.
As I mentioned in this video, I did a lot of research about side shaves and read all the pros and cons because choosing on a particular look. From the big points I saw most people are concerned with the growing out aspect of the side shave, but as you will see in this video, if you shave off the correct amount of hair from the right location, growing out won’t be an issue!
When it comes to getting funky hair cuts or even getting your hair dyed in Korea, it can be a very scary experience, especially if you can’t express exactly what you want. I always recommend bringing a collection of YES and also NO pictures with you, rather than just “YES this is what I want.” If you have a bunch of clear “NO don’t freakin do this” then the whole circle of hairdressing life is complete. If you just assume they get it that’s you mistake. Hahaha! I seriously bring so many pictures with me…it’s like a diagram…hahahha!
Since moving from Bucheon I stopped going to Juno Hair (I miss you Cheri the awesomest hair stylist ever) and started going to Hair and Joy where I go to Johnny. He lived in England, speaks English, and knows how to deal with different types of hair. He’s great and I’m pretty sure he owns the salon. if it’s your first time going I recommend going to him first. So that’s where I go to get my hair bleached white before I dye it pink at home. That was something Juno was actually unable to do for me so I found Hair and Joy while living in Bucheon. It was just a pain to travel out to Seoul but now that I live closer, it’s easier to get a hair cut and a dye.
Also, note: did you notice the poster behind me? The girl with blond hair and pink under lights? Uh huh. That was there WAY after I started going to Hair and Joy with pink hair. I asked Johnny if they’re doing pink hair dye now and he said that particular dye washes out and fades super fast so told me to stick to what I’m using now (which is Manic Panic). Okay, note over.
So that’s it for my little blurb on hair! I’m going to attach a pic of Johnny’s card/Hair and Joy’s info incase you want to visit. And keep in the mind this is a November 2014 blog post, so goggle Hair and Joy Hongdae Seoul just incase the location changes over time. I’m happy to share my hair adventures with you all and hopefully it gives you guise a little burst of courage to change up your hair. After all, it’s usually grows back and if all else fails, wear a fantastic elastic hat. So has anyone gotten a hairstyle that they really loved or really really regretted? Let me know in the comment section below!
