Share Post

It’s week 2 of our 3 week HongdaeFest special, in which we had a bunch of awesome Korean Indie bands stop by the Eatyourkimchi Nasty Studio and talk about their music videos and their performances for HongdaeFest. Booya!

I hope some of you went to the shows this week. If you didn’t/couldn’t, you still have time to go this week and next week! It’s so easy! Just get on an airplane and…well, not that easy for all of you. But for those of you here in Korea, we hope to see you there. For those of you outside of Korea, we hope you at least have fun with this video and see some bands that you like.

Here’s the lineup we’re introducing this week:

24 hours

March 21st @Soundholic City 8PM

The Groo

March 22nd @Soundholic City 6PM

Asian Chairshot

March 23rd @Soundholic City 6PM

For those of you who want to make it to the events but don’t know where to go, we got you covered: we did our freaking long WANK this past Thursday and gave you a Walking tour of Hongdae’s Clubs. We show you exactly where Soundholic City is located right at the very beginning. It’s so easy!

If you love rock and roll, this is the band to see if you can only make one concert. Harry Big Button are so awesome, we saw them live at Club FF with a whole awesome lineup of bands, but this time it’s just a Harry Big Button concert. WAAAAHOOO!!

Eco Bridge Cafe

MARCH 30: Papercut Project

I seriously have no idea where this place is…sorry…if anyone knows anything about it, let us know!

Lastly, click on this badass button right here below so you can see more stuff on Korean Indie music. Luckily, a really cool Korean Indie Artist that we like a lot a lot a lot saw our first HongdaeFest video and wants to do something for their upcoming promo, which we’re shooting this week. Hooray for more Indie!

  3. Simon and Martina, if I could offer a bit of criticism…. Asian Charishot’s segment in the video was really hard to watch, it was just WAY too chopped up. I don’t know how you guys edit your videos or the reasoning behind why its edited this way, but it was really distracting. It. was. so. hard to. follow. it. kept. cutting. out.

    • We had our reasons for that! Some of the bands were just really really nervous and kept stopping and re-doing their sentences and it was really really really hard to edit it into a single sentence and a short enough segment. :O

      • My guess was that maybe they weren’t used to talking on camera and kept dragging out their sentences with “ummm” or something of that nature. Makes sense.

  7. I really love this guys! I have always wondered was there other genres in Korea, like rock, since that’s my favorite. Apparently Korea does have some good rock music. Thanks for introducing me to some great tunes hehe ^^

  9. man there english is really good. like really good. i think this is awesome what you guys are doing for the indie scene in korea. Korean Indie is so under rated and because of Eat Your Kimchi, Indie music and these bands are able to have place to till the world about who they are. you have given a voice to the bands who’s vocie was only that of a wisper. Thank you so much. I wish i was in Hongdae to see the feast. I know i say this alot but when i go to korea i can’t wait to go to hongdae and check out the indie clubs and bands. I am excited i really want to check out my favourite bands of all time some day and thats Soran, Peppertones and Coffee Boy.

  18. omg Simon & Martina thank you guys so much for sharing all these bands’ MVs with us. Im a huge kpop fan but my roots are into rock & metal. And all of these bands were amazing, I friggin loved their songs and their videos were awesome as well. QUESTION????- Do you guys listen to Miyavi? He was my gateway drug into the asian music scene, I have been into him since WAY BACK in like 2002. You guys talk about korean bands and music but do you listen to any Japanese singers and groups?

    • I want to know also which Japanese artist they listen to. I know Martina likes Perfume so that’s cool ^-^

      • I was trying to put together a Japanese playlist today for a party and I really needed help. I would love some “nasty” recommendations.

        • AKB48 is really popular, I like their song “Heavy Rotation”. But I really love Hello! Project.

  19. So…I’ve been thinking about something for a long time because I’ve been watching EYK for a long time. I’m sure you’ve thought about it too, but wouldn’t it be amazing to have indie groups come into the studio to do a live session? Doesn’t even have to be a set. I was just thinking about how awesome it would be to not only see a group interviewed, but also see a song or two performed “unplugged” (depending on the music) Maybe i heard you say something along these lines a long time ago and that’s why it’s been on my mind more lately. It’s just cause it’s sometimes so hard to actually SEE an indie group unless you live in Korea.

    • We actually talked about Live Sessions with some of the bands. They’re interested. We just need to find a way to do this, so the video can look good. Our space isn’t really the biggest. We’re working with the idea, though!

  20. Love X Stereo is the awesomest! (hey spellcheck don’t tell me that’s not a word!)
Also check out their most recent MV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7tu701yWgA

  21. Love X Stereo is coming to San Diego, you said? Give you all of my money, you said? I can arrange this.

  22. Thank you sooo much for posting these videos!! Like several other commentors also mentioned, most of us probably wouldn’t have discovered or known about these bands without your help. And I’m super excited that I was able to find all of these artists on iTunes! I am really liking Love X Stereo’s “Fly Over” which to me has an 80s esque feel like The Go-Go’s or The B-52’s, a certainly peppy sound I really love. Can’t wait for your next Korean Indie video!

  23. D: LOVE X STEREO was in Austin… played before and I missed them, they played the same show as Glen Check and No Brain….. The sadness that has consumed me. :(
