A few months ago, I woke up and said to myself, “damn son, I think I should grow a beard.” And so I did. Here’s how!
Well, this isn’t really an accurate representation. I just thought the video would be fun to shoot. We gave up on it after a while because our schedule became insane. I think I stopped filming this right before we moved out of our old apartment, so you might recognize that wall. You’ll also see some scene changes from when we were in California at a few different locations.
Fun things to know about the beard: I get lots of food trapped in it. I now have to walk around with a handkerchief so I can wipe my mouth when I eat. I should look into getting some dapper handkerchiefs. I have only one at the moment, which I bought in Amsterdam. What’s the policy with handkerchiefs? How often do people wash them? I’d imagine people should use a new one every day, right?
Also, big thing I noticed about the beard: it definitely needs to be trimmed and lined up. I let it grow wild before, and didn’t trim the neckline, and it looked really bad as a result. Now that it’s shaped a bit more I think it looks significantly better.
Another thing: anyone know a good barbershop in Korea? I went to an awesome one, again in Amsterdam, where my beard trim took something close to an hour. They used hot towels, lots of lotions, did a close shave, put on aftershave (at which point I screamed and swore like a sailor), and really took care of me. I tried finding one in Korea, and I got a lukewarm towel and cold blade and was done in 15 minutes. If any beard growers here in Korea know of another place, I’d love to hear it!
