Korean Face Masks: ANIMAL STYLE

Last week’s face mask video was terrifying. This week’s face masks aren’t as terrifying, but they’re still a bit creepy. Are there any face masks that aren’t creepy? Martina’s was especially creepy. I had fun being a tiger, but Martina looked like one of Joker’s henchmen from The Dark Knight rises.

But hey, here’s what I’m gonna do: I’m gonna give an honest review of this product, from a beardo’s perspective. I actually didn’t mind this product terribly. I liked padding down my face with the moist essence afterwards. I’m not sure if it did me any good, though. My skin doesn’t look or feel any different. It tasted like crap, though, on my lips. How do you avoid getting it on your lips? Is there an easy way to do that? I don’t know. Maybe if I just let it do its thing and didn’t talk that much then it would be on my lips afterwards, I think.

Also, that picture of Leigh, Soo Zee, and Martina all lying down with their face stuff on was from our Road Trip Around Korea, but they also did that during our European trip. Our studio has a lot of women working in it. Apart from Ellwyn and I, it’s all women. It’s funny, because today some government worker stopped by the studio to tell Soo Zee something about mandatory training in offices for sexual assault. Which, I think, is a phenomenal idea. Women in the Korean workforce do not have it good many times, I think. But our studio’s a different story. So, it was funny when Soo Zee told the guy “umm, there’s only one guy working here and the rest is all women,” and he said “oh never mind then” and left. HA! So there’s a silly story that’s somewhat related to face masks. I don’t remember how.

Oh! But on to the product giveaway! We have three more of these face masks and haven’t done a giveaway in a while, so we figure now’s the time to do so! So head on over to our Premium Nasty Giveaway Page and enter the draw, and we might just mail you some beauty products from Korea. Ooooh nice!

Otherwise, if you’re not gonna enter, but you still want these face masks (as you should!) you can pick them up on Gmarket. Aww yeah!

  2. These terrified me so much for some reason… And then I realised why. It reminded me of Zoobily Zoo.

At least you guys are old enough that you should remember this too? XD

(Also, I think those were panda ears, not brows! XD)

  4. Martina! I love your bandana collection! They’re so adorable and like… nice. Where do you get them? I especially love the paisley prints.

  5. I went out of my way to buy them. You can get it from ebay if you’re from the states. I’m excited for the panda ones!

  6. I would love Martina to do another review of Korean Face products. I found The Faceshop here where I live and I love their products. I also love how blunt Martina can be in her reviews ;)

  7. Martina actually looked really cute in her panda mask. I mean, the mask itself is very disturbing, but everything looks good on Martina, so she managed to pull the look off well.

  8. 4:30 to 4:40 had me laughing for a long long time. I repeat that part to many times. Thanks Simon for your imitation.

  9. Now I have become sad after watching this video because in London you always find clay masks which are very cheap… you can get the face masks in china town however they are super expensive… -.- I really want to try the face masks…. I will definitely go to Korea just to buy one of those!! I loved the video btw <3

  10. I bought two face masks when I was in Japan last year, but I didn’t really like them because of the smell… They had some sort of perfume in them and I can’t use things like that because I get migraines. So I had to wash my face after using the masks :/ any recommendations of masks that aren’t scented?

  11. Cool the tiger looked sick but the panda made me think of tao and tao is cute so …

  13. These actually look cute to me. I think these masks are quite effective and i am starting to love them . This might be because i have a twisted but accepting view towards most face mask designs. How did your face feel after it dried off…

  14. Holly crap, that thing just gave Martina explosive Diarrhea just by licking it. Those are too dangerous…….or maybe is just what happens when you lick Simon. We´ll never now.

  15. I’ve become a big fan of these masks. I never used regular ones because of all the mess involved. Sephora has gotten in on this and they are really nice

  17. I have a clay mask I use once a week that I love and I really see a difference in my skin the following days. When I buy this kind of mask I usually get some sort of variety pack for fun to try out the different kinds, some I see differences in my skin afterwards, but others just feel really relaxing to let sit on your skin.

  18. I was wondering…. How is religion viewed in Korea? I thought that it was mainly a Buddhist country but so many idols are Christian that I was just really curious (*.*)

    • I’ve been wondering that as well. As an example, Gemma in You’re Beautiful becoming a nun shows Catholic is represented, but in Modern Farmer the style of mourning and funerals is different than in North America

  19. The things women and Simon endure for beauty…do not envy. That looks so slimy my face is crawling just thinking about it. And the plain masks are already creepy-looking enough, why would you put something else on it?

  20. I am actually a huge fan of masks like the ones you show! I had a neighbor at BYU-I from South Korea who introduced me to them. We actually found a website that sells just the mask with nothing on it and you make up your own serum to put the mask in. My favorite was honey, milk, and coconut oil. it’s super good for your skin and doesn’t leave a yucky taste. In fact It’s kind of hard not to lick it when the honey gets on your lips.:3

    • You went to BYU-I? I’m currently going to school there right now! Made me a little excited to see that, haha. Coconut oil, milk and honey does sound pretty tasty, I’d probably be very willing lick my lips. :P

  21. That panda mask is actually a little creepy!

  22. Hyaluronic acid is really good for your skin! It’s very moisturizing….I think it encourages your skin to attract moisture or something? Idk. It’s in the face lotion I use. Also some people take oral supplements of it for arthritis..
I think the panda “eyebrows” were supposed to be its ears :p have you guys heard of juggalos? I encourage a Google image search because that’s what that panda mask looks like

    • I was going to say the same thing about hyaluronic acid…Martina! It is super good for your skin AND as Amymarz said, as a supplement is good for the joints…My mother has rheumatoid arthritis and has been suffering from it for years (living with chronic pain), other than strong painkillers that she cannot even take really (it is especially bad for people with rheumatoid arthritis since the condition affects liver function) she couldn’t do much other than warm or cold compress on her aching joints. Then about a year ago she started taking a hyaluronic acid+collagen supplement and she swears that within 2 weeks of taking it she started feeling so much better and her joints are not aching as much. She has been taking it ever since religiously and it has worked really well for her. Plus…she noticed a great improvement in her skin and hair as well.

  23. Those face masks remind of this China dating show that has this new gimic called “X-girl”. This one girl put on enough makeup done by a makeup artist, to look like a cat woman. It’s to hide her facial features and hopefully a guy will like her for her personality…. But her makeup is so disturbingly creepy that no one wants to choose her….

Vancouver finally got a Tony Moly which makes me sooo happy that I have a place for makeup. I have noticed they sell the placenta face mask… maybe that should be a WTF on its own?

  24. I can finally comment! Hi you GUISE! I kept forgetting my login stuff and gave up on commenting. It’s Karen from Green Region!

First of all, the panda mask is creepy as hell. Secondly, what kind of facemasks do you usually use, Martina? I use TonyMoly.

The Hyalurunic Acid sheets from them are my favorite, and extremely hydrating, for me at least.

  25. You really looked like a mime, Martina! and I love your bright pink eyebrows btw, they really bring out the pink Sailor warrior in you :P
    and Simon… “hellooo ladies…” … hellooo tiger-perfumed Simon ;)

  26. The panda mask was indeed a bit terrifying…

  27. As soon as Martina mentioned eyebrows on pandas i noticed her ones ahaha! We’re they always pink?

  28. I use a sheet mask, once a week. I think the one I use is from Freeman’s… Let me check. Yeah, thats it. Did you feel any difference, Martina? Oh any btw… whats that stuff making your eyebrows all pretty? I went to Etude House website… no pretty eyebrow stuffs. *Oh Guru of the pink, tell us your secrets!!!* Kay bye!!!

  29. LOL! Martina buzzing away reminds me of a balloon deflating. XD I actually want those masks now.
Hyaluronic acid is actually good for your skin by the way. It’s just a weak acid. :D

  30. LMAOOO omg this was hilarious!! Loved you guy’s sexy mask… Uh dances?/moves? Lol .. Simon you should totally join the ladies when they do their sheet masks!! Skincare should not just be for women! Lol also since you guys were on the topic of sexual harassment in your blog post… You think you guys can do a tldr on feminism in Korea? Like I guess with a concentration on harassment outside (street, clubs) and in the workplace and if there is a movement trying to move forward ?(which I’m sure there is but how prominent is it in the minds of an avg korean citizen ) … Sry I know that was a lot but just watching dramas I can’t help but notice that while they may portray women having these high positions, men still perform that wrist grab move (which omg pisses me off so much!!) and yell at them etc so I just wanna know also if that’s just in the dramas or if you have seen “moves” like that

  31. The panda mask was spooky !! Lolol

  32. HAHA
I love facial masks but like Simon I don’t like the extra serum on my face. It leaves my face feeling sticky and gross.

    *Spoiler Alert*
I love the way Martina runs away….

  33. Granted its not as much nightmare fuel as the… the last ones lol I do think the panda one is well creepy just not as creepy xD and yeah…. what sound does a panda make? Lol!

  34. Yea, these masks are pretty scary xD
    Love your eyebrows btw, Martina^^

    • Thank you! I tried a new pink colour this time, it’s a more neon pink colour. I have 4 different shades of pink which are all from Etude House who I’m DYING TO GET SPONSERSHIP FROM…SEMPAI NOTICE ME!!!! SEND ME FREE STUFF AND I’LL WEAR IT I SWEAR!!! I ALREADY BOUGHT EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!!! Hahhahaah *sobs on the floor surrendered by Etude House packaging* But seriously I was worried it was a bit too bright. Can you tell the difference between these eyebrows and the last couples videos? Let me know your preference!

      • You should make a video of the best Etude products! I just have their BB cream and have been wondering what else I should try :)

      • Yes, I definitely noticed the difference! I think I prefer the more subtle pink, though you pull off the brighter pink really well^^

Haha, I’m sure you’ll get sponsored by them someday!~

      • I could tell the difference. This one was alot brighet. I think the subtle one looked better tho :)

        • *brighter lol. I love how you actually match your eyebrows with your hair, its so pretty!
