Korean McDonalds Drive Through

Damn son! Our uploading game is strong this week! It feels great to be back to publishing videos, tons of them! Wednesday, Thursday, two on Friday, Saturday, and two on Sunday. BOOYAKASHA! Well, this is the first of two videos we’re publishing today. We’ve got our DICKS coming out later tonight. And, damn, I love using sentences with our awkward video acronyms :D

Anyhow, this is just another short bit of extra footage we shot while on our Eatyourkimchi Road Trip this summer, and we didn’t know where to put it in our other videos, so we just made a small Open the Happy video out of it. And, come on! Drive through ice-cream is definitely something that opens happiness!

Also, we were uncommonly excited about this because drive-throughs barely exist here in Korea. I haven’t seen any in Seoul. I remember a tiny one in Bucheon, and then…that’s it. It was only when we left Seoul and got into the less populated areas that we saw a McDonalds drive-through or two.

It also makes me wonder, why don’t other restaurants offer drive through? A 김밥천국 drive-through would be awesome! Well, in some cases. Drive-through kimbab would be delicious. Drive-through soup, though, would be dangerous. Hmmm. There seems to be a possibility here…

  1. Choco cones and McFlurries…unfortunately they are but poor imitations of treats that Leigh as a Texan should know so very well: dipped cones and Blizzards from Dairy Queen.

Now, I know Dairy Queens are all over the US, but they hold a special place in the heart of many Texans, as for pretty much all the small towns for many years that was the only chain restaurant—and sometimes the only restaurant. The hot-food menu at DQ in Texas is branded separately from the national chain and has certain items not available in other states. DQ in Texas also has separate marketing from the national chain.

The other chain deep in the heart of Texans, though not nearly as localized, is Sonic Drive-In. Many a small town has one, and not much else.

That is how you get fat XDD
There used to be an italian drive thru. You waited for maybe 5 minutes or so, but then bam: Italian food.
    And chinese too. mmm.

  3. I miss chococones, they had them in Malaysia, but not in the UK. :( Plenty of drive thru’s in UK, we even have drive thru Starbucks, KFC and Krispy Kreme. Supermarkets are also trialing drive thrus at the moment, you order online and then go to the drive thru to pick it up.

  4. Which camera was Leigh using to capture this and is it the same one you guys use at home for your regular videos? I’ve been wondering because I want to start a channel and your videos are so crisp and sharp looking. Poor Soo Zee having lived this long without having had the ‘sperience of drive thru ice cream … ;-) P.S. I’m jonesing for the Nexus 9 tablet.

  5. Dear EYK,
I lost a classmate over the weekend and I just wanted to thank you guys for keeping me happy and distracted until the denial wears off. It’s great how your joy of going through a rare drive through in Korea can transfer all the way to a college girl in Iowa. Thank you <3

  13. There are a lot of McDonald’s drive-throughs in Seoul… there’s even one in Gangnam… though every time I see it I’m not sure how they managed that one logistically…

  16. Will there be EYKAs this year? :D

    • Yep. We’ve got something really special in store for them, and – if things work out – we might have something extra that’ll be really REALLY special :D

      • Omg! I can’t wait for the EYKA’s this year! Now I’m really pumped :)

  17. Really? That’s my first time hearing that there’s no drive thrus in Seoul. I’m from the Philippines and almost all fast food chains here have drive thrus. Even Starbucks have a drive thru but in selected branches only. (not really sure for other countries).

    • I’m from the Philippines too and from where I’m from, we have a Krispy Kreme drive through here. It weirded me out for some reasons, or maybe I’m just the only one LOL.

    • I haven’t seen any Starbucks drive throughs here. It seems like people go to coffee shops to drink coffee and sit for a long time. Drive throughs, I think, defeat the main point for a Korean Starbucks, IMO.

  19. Your happiness over a drive-thru will forever make drive-thrus the most fun I’ve ever had!
I didn’t think about it until now – I was just like, Seoul is a big metro city, of course they have the best convenience ever invented! – But everything in Seoul is so tightly built that of COURSE there is no space for a drive-thru!

Must be why delivery of EVERYTHING is so big!

  20. God bless drive thrus…that’s all I got to say. And also chocolate-dipped cones are so messy! Had my fair share of car clean ups after a meal. Haha. Who knew the chocolate melted so quickly?
