WTF – Micro Ball Floor Cleaner

So, I’m writing his post now on a Sunday afternoon (though I’m publishing it on Saturday in Norway!). We had just finished filming this video in our studio. We don’t usually come into the studio on Sundays, but we’re trying to film videos in advance before we fly out for our European trip. So, after filming, we packed up and made our way back to You Are Here Cafe. And my first thought when we came into the shop was, damn, this place is so much cleaner than our studio. We…really. We’d to get to vacuuming more. Ugh. That was embarrassing. I hope our moms don’t watch this video and scold us for not cleaning enough. I’M AN ADULT MOM! AND AN ARTIST! Artists are meant to be messy, right? Right?

Interestingly, this won’t work as well back in our home because we actually clean it often. Really! We’re artsy-fartsy at the studio but somewhat cleaner at home :) But at home we have our own robot-vacuum that does most of the work for us. Ha!

Also, Spudgy and Meemers don’t really take kindly to the ball. They’re not fans of automated machines whatsoever, or, more specifically, anything that cleans the floor. Regular vacuums, robot vacuums, or even this ball freak them out. They live such sheltered lives, these precious animals.

Anyhow, if you want to pick up one (or ten) of these micro ball floor robot cleaners, you can buy them over at Gmarket. We’re actually in Europe now as we publish this. So weird! I’m writing this in Korea but publishing in Europe. Cooooool! We’ve got a few awesome videos coming from our European tour, so make sure you subscribe for all the fun and merriment :)

  3. My grandma bought something similar to this only it wasn’t for cleaning. It was a cat toy or something, made to look like a weasel. Accept… We didn’t get it for her cats at all… We got it for my toddler-aged cousin who ended it being immediately TERRIFIED of thing. It works the same as the fuzzy ball things… Only it’s creepier. This is actually what it is: http://www.weaselballs.com/ aka, the creature of my cousin’s nightmares.

  10. Okay, I am going to get nerdy for a second. (Wait, I’m always nerdy) This thing reminds me of those furry Tribble creatures from the old Star Trek. I think that is what they are called, anyway. Side note: I saw my mustache rug that I sent you year or two ago!

  11. Oh My, its a Pygmy Puff! Ever since I read about it in the Half-Blood Prince I wanted to adopt one…
Thank you Simon, Martina & Korean G-Market.
PS:Happy to see you in Cologne. YAY

  12. I love the Labyrinth in all of its David Bowie package glory!

As neat as this is, it doesn’t seem to know where it’s going or where it’s been. This reminds me of this remote-controlled ball called Sphero. You control it with your phone/tablet and can roll it all around. I wonder if those furry ball covers would fit on it?! WE COULD BE BAGILLIONAIRES!

  15. I loved Martina’s reference to The Labyrinth!! That was my favorite movie growing up!
You MUST get some videos of the ball with Spudgy and Meemers! It would totally Open the Happy!!

  16. This reminds me of those weasel ball things that were so popular in the early 2000’s

  17. Meg

BWUAHAHA OMG the minute I heard you sing “As the World Falls Down” I knew Martina! I was cracking up! I LOVE The Labyrinth. Even with all his crazy hair and huge bulging, I had a big crush on David Bowing in that movie (Shame faced). Also at the end when Simon was saying Rollie Poolie Ollie it made me think of this kids cartoon/animation show that I would watch all the time! The nostalgia feels in this video, geezus.

That ball would seriously mess with my OCDness so much! I would pick up lint and then just drop it somewhere else. I was getting frustrated. It looked adorable, but I would probably just use it as a fun toy for my dogs and leave the cleaning to the vacuum lol

  19. Are we going to get a reaction video of Spudgy and Meemers or is it just too traumatizing for them and thus not funny?

  20. That’s so cute!

  21. Bowie’s tight pants and crotch shots were the best part of that movie.

I’ve also decided I really want a fuzzy ball cleaner. It is just too cute.

  22. Any video with a Labyrinth reference gets an A++ in my book. Especially when mentioning Bowie’s tight pants. Yesss…

  23. I think the best part of David Bowie’s crystal ball twirling was that they actually had a professional juggler crouching behind Bowie wearing the same gloves.

  24. Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I don’t care that it doesn’t seem to be the most effective cleaner, but it’s so cute! And funny!

  25. I like the fuzzy ball, mainly for the endless opportunities it provides for saucy one-liners. As a floor cleaner, I noticed that while it did a pretty good job picking up schmutz from the floor, it rolled around directionlessly ’cause it ain’t got a brain like the robot vacuum cleaner. What would be cool would be to see the robot vacuum cleaner commanding a small army of fuzzy balls, which would follow it around like pilot fish as it made its appointed rounds.

  26. I don’t know if this would work, but I was wondering if it would pick up some of the bigger crumbs/dirt if you stuck a few pieces of double sided tape to it. Though I’m not sure if it would stick itself to the floor or not.

Anyway, I think this Micro Ball Floor Cleaner has great potential! If nothing else, it was super fun to watch. :)

  27. Did you guys noticed that Simon sang Roly Poly but with the Lovey Dovey melody? INSTANT MASHUP!!

  28. Maybe I can get one of these to help out.. Or as a replacement for my dream place
I have a dream of one day owning a roomba because I HATE vancuuming. I hate the noise they make and I hate people who complain about my vacuuming.
Seriously… I went over that spot 5 times. Get a better vaccum cleaner.

  29. I knew which movie you were referencing as soon as you started playing with the ball! Yay for Labyrinth mentions! I liked your lyrics too, very appropriate for both the movie and the WTF.

  30. Honestly the way it’s made It seems like something you would use after you sweep to pick up left over dust. it’s more like duster then an actual broom . Martina thank you so much for the labyrinth reference I was laughing so hard. And holy cow Simons a wizard all telling the future about awesome Europe videos before he even left while pre writing the blog post. Mind blown LOL. Have an awesome trip.

  31. I just want one to have as my little fuzzy ball pet..cause I has no friends. :( Haha, not really but it is really cute! But I would say for what it is made for, pretty useless. I saw lots of crumbs being left behind. ;)

  32. That thing is so neat! But I feel like you would have to have a bunch of them if you actually wanted it to clean the whole floor, since there isn’t really any rhyme or reason to where it rolls, right? And you’d have to keep an eye on it in case it got stuck. But still really cool! It looks like something out of a Dr. Seuss book^^

  33. Those Little balls are so cute!!!
I was wondering if you guys could look at “Her” by Block B for your next Kpop Music Mondays, or some other time in the near future; I’m curious to see what you guys say;)
