Sailor Moon Cafe

Finally! After years of seeing Sailor Moon cafes and bars and restaurants pop up in Tokyo I finally got to go to one myself! YAAAAA!!!!!! BUCKET LIST CHECKED OFF! BOOM! So this particular event was super awesome for all Sailor Moon fans since it was an exhibition of rare art + toys plus a Sailor Moon themed cafe, the Chibiusa Cafe. It was located on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower (which BTW also houses the Tokyo YouTube space) and boasts a spectacular view of the city. So even if you don’t like Sailor Moon, paying for a ticket and being dragged along allows you access to a great view of Tokyo. Honestly, even if you aren’t a Sailor Moon fan it was a pretty cool exhibition featuring old school merch, black and white panels, hand drawn gel panels for the animation, gorgeous paintings of famous scenes from Sailor Moon, and more. Simon enjoyed it even though he isn’t a Sailor Moon fan. I mean, he isn’t a Sailor Moon enemy, but he isn’t into it like I am.

The Chibiusa Cafe was our main focus since I really wanted to try Sailor Moon themed food. I was expecting it to be pretty awful tasting and pretty adorable looking but I was nicely surprised. Besides Sailor Mercury’s terrible energy drink flavoured beverage, the rest of the stuff we ordered was great! The decorations like the moon and Sailor Pluto’s talisman in Simon’s curry were what I would expect from decorations…not that tasty….but everything around it was legit decent food. The Tuxedo Mask pasta I heard is vegetarian for those that don’t eat meat, but I’m not sure the exact ingredients so I can’t vouch for it if you’re a vegan. Other than that, there is a one hour limit in the cafe but they are very efficient with bringing out your items since you pre-order them outside so there is more than enough time to take pictures and be excited about all your items.

Price wise, it wasn’t terribly expensive. The burger was around $16, the curry $15, and the desserts between $10-13. The only expensive thing I felt were the drinks which were between $8- $10 but this is once in a lifetime so I was willing to splurge. The event is on until mid-Jube so I recommend checking it out if you get the chance! We bought our tickets at a kiosk from the convenience store Lawsons but you can also buy your ticket the day of at the location itself. The building is very big and confusing so make sure you ask the information kiosk if you’re feeling lost. You’ll need the help!

This whole event was fantastic for me because it was so nice to meet other Sailor Moon fans. Fans of all ages and fans wearing their favourite Sailor Moon things in various ways. I saw people straight up cosplaying to people wearing Sailor Moon cardigans or purses in a more subtle way. Either way, we all eyeballed each other’s clothing and accessories and smiled and oooohed and aaahhed over it. It was a really nice feeling. I get the same nice feeling when we attend anime conventions. :D

Oh and here is the info below for those of you that want to go:
It’s open from April 16 – July 19 2016 (so there’s still time to go!). It’s in Roppongi Hills, at the Tokyo City View Observation Deck (Sky Gallery in Mori Tower). The address is Tokyo-to, Minato-ku, Roppongi 6-10-1, Roppongi Hills 52nd floor. In Japanese it’s 東京都港区六本木6-10-1 六本木ヒルズ森タワー52階. Otherwise, it’s open from 10AM-10PM, though last entry is 9:30PM.

So has anyone else had the chance to attend this Sailor Moon exhibition? I’d love to hear about how you felt and what was your favourite part? If you haven’t experienced it, though, we want to share some of it with you by giving you some Sailor Moon goodies we got at the exhibit. Let us know who your favourite Sailor Moon character and why. Yes, it’s a cheesy question, but we want to make sure we give this to someone who would love it the way Martina would have loved it as a child. Ha!

And lastly, we’ve got some extra scenes as well, if you’re in the mood for more Sailor Moon:

  1. My top favorite character is Hotaru Tomoe, because she is a great healer.

    • And, also, she is hot. I wonder what it’s like to have Hotaru (Sailor Saturn) live with me. More so, to live with her and her dad (Doctor Souichi Tomoe). That would be awesome.

  2. My favorite Sailor Scout is Sailor PLuto (lol typed it out like her sigil in her transformation) because she is a stand alone soldier but has a caring heart and when she does her super awesome destructive attacks, she doesn’t shout it like the other scouts but w h i s p e r s. Her mysterious vibe she gives off is what brought my attention to her when I first watched Sailor Moon as a child. I remember the episode vividly when the scouts go to the Catedral to fight against Eudial and PLuto made her elegant entrance as a sailor scout and just *gasp* it’s just such a concept that I live for. Being a holder of one of the three talismans, she’s a crucial part of the series and I’m glad she’s in it, she is pretty much like a guardian angel that helps guide everyone plus Sailor Moon to the greater good – leadership, a very admirable quality.

  5. Ok, these 2 videos had stuff that I was literally busting out with a belly laugh. At this point after only knowing about you all for a few days and enjoying watching everything (and wishing I have seen everything but I will eventually) I have had many belly laughs, but 2 things took the cake – the “I’m fine, its cool, I’m calm, fine, calm, I’m fine” and the awesome chair dance that Martina is doing in the bonus footage! I have not been that way over Sailor Moon but believe me over plenty of other stuff (Simon your door ringing dance from the House Tour and bonus was awesome too, not leaving you out!) So have you guise ever made a compilation of each of your funniest moments? Like a Martina video, and a Simon video? And a Spudgy and a Meemers? If I could watch one every morning when I woke up just to put me in a good mood for the day or come home and cheer myself up it would be amazing. Even wonderful days could be made cheerier with some belly laughs! Have a great Anniversary!

  6. Luna was my favorite character, for a number of reasons. First, among my friends, I was the only black girl. I didn’t have the pale skin and long hair like the other scouts. But I was dark and agile (gymnastics was my sport). Secondly, Luna was a mentor for all the scouts but especially Sailor Moon. She helped her to develop in skills and personality. She was good companion, and my friend said that loyalty is one of my best features. Good for Luna since Sailor Moon was a bit of a brat at first. Last, Luna did a lot of research to help the scouts succeed. She was a planner like me. She often knew lots of information, and I have a thirst for applicable knowledge. That’s why I really like EYK. I learn a lot of things that i can use in everyday life. So, even though Luna isn’t a scout, she was definitely a part of the team! 사랑해!

  7. My favourite is Sailor Jupiter because shes such a trooper, she got her heart broken alot but shes strong and puts herself out there. She has awesome lightening powers and also kicks butt in the show. Despite having her memory wiped she still treats these girls like her sisters and sticks by their side!

  8. Sailor Uranus is my favorite scout, Tuxedo Mask is my favorite non-scout *u* I like them both pretty equally character wise though <3

  9. My favorite Sailor Character is Sailor Moon! My middle name is “Hli” which means “Moon” in my language. Ever since I was 2, I’ve been obsessed with Sailor Moon! Now that I’m 17, I still look up to her. She has taught me that even though I can be clumsy and not as bright, I shouldn’t let others bring me down. Sailor Moon has such a big heart. And after watching her, I’ve learned to become the person I am today. :) Btw, I love you guys so much! Hope you can do more Sailor videos!

  10. Back in the day, there was this little-known website run by Alicia Blade called The Tuxedo Mask Shrine. It became the gateway drug to all things Sailor Moon for me and why– despite rose-throwing, sharp reflexes, and a large library of motivational poster quotes being his only real talents– Chiba Mamoru is my favorite character.

He brings the romance aspect as an “older guy” *cue swoon* and more importantly (in my heart of hearts) the connection to the Shittenou so that I can ship the Scouts with them. Because what is fandom for if not for shipping? I spent countless hours on the “A Sailor Moon Romance” website which is now essentially defunct but lives on in my memory as a place where, for over a decade, SM fans went to continue living in the world that Naoko Takeuchi introduced us to.

Sailor Moon has always been a story about enduring love. Love of friends, love of family, romantic love. Even love for strangers and enemies. And Mamoru is our first introduction to heartbreak, first in the Silver Millennium and again when he fears for Usa’s safety. He is the foil against all the other types of love, reflecting the possibility of what can happen to two people when love is lost. And he fights all the harder alongside his kickass future queen because he knows that love is worth fighting for.

  11. Hi Simon and Martina! My favorite scout is Chibi Moon because the idea of failure and the worry of failing people that you respect is a very real issues that people face everyday. She has strong character development through the series going through the stages of Black Lady and such. It was so fun to watch her grow and mature throughout the series with the occasional fun bicker with Usagi ^^

  12. My favorite scout has always been Sailor Jupiter. She’s a really strong person, and a big sister figure, whom I looked up to as a child. She was always caring about all the other sailor scouts which made her very admirable. To me she represents someone who is beautiful yet very strong on her own.

  13. I love Sailor Neptune because I find a lot of qualities in her that I see in myself. She’s passionate, dedicated, smart, artistically talented, all the strength you would find in someone influenced by a water sign. Being a water sign myself, I appreciate seeing these strengths embodied in a character with such grace and beauty. I’ve watched Sailor Moon since I was a kid and have been absolutely obsessed. I used to set my VCR to record the show so I could watch it when I got home from school and my mom used to take me to Chinatown in L.A. to find Sailor Moon merchandise. I almost exclusively wore Sailor Moon shirts, my grandma sewed me a Sailor Moon costume for Halloween one year, and I still have a replica of the Cutie Moon rod that plays music and makes magical noises!

  16. My favorite is Sailor Mars because (and I know it sounds cheesy xD) to me, she is my childhood. She was the one I played every time my friends and I pretended to be the scouts. Although I’ve had many favorites throughout the years (Jupiter, then Neptune, then Uranus…) everytime I’m asked about my favorite I stick with Rei, she is MY scout, you know what I mean? XDDDD I’m sure Martina does, we are the same age so I guess she has experienced the whole “let’s play Sailor Moon!” thing. Choosing just one was truly an existential dilemma, wasn’t it? Luckily, red is my color!
Awesome video, guys, I’m happy you enjoyed the experience. Even Simon! XD

  18. Since I saw a picture on Instagram I was waiting for this video! And now it’s here. Yey.

My favourite character is Sailor Uranus. When I’ve watched anime for the first time I was to young to fully understand her complex personality and relationship with Sailor Neptune. But I always liked her, because of her strong character. I was a tomboy as a child, so I liked the masculine part of her. I’ve always looked forward to her World Shaking attack because it felt really cool and powerful.

  19. My favorite character is Sailor Moon. She was always my hero as a kid. Being the clumsy, crybaby I am I connected with her character immediately. It was so amazing to see this girl who was always late and didn’t do well in school kick butt and save the world. And I always loved the romance between Usagi and Mamorou, even if the age difference is abit creepy. Sailor Moon has always been my favorite anime and my absolute favorite character has to be Usagi and Sailor Moon.

  21. Hi Martina and Simon ! I discovered your youtube account just recently. I really want to thank you both for making inspirational videos. I always smiling whenever I saw Martina’s so happy and your smile is very precious it made my day !

I’ve just made my account today after watching The Sailor Moon’s Café ! I love Martina’s smile very much. It’s vibrating happiness!

I actually was a pretty hardcore Sailor Moon fan when I was a little kid. I had a Sailor Moon’s outfit and the accessories. I was actually asking my mom to sew a dress for my home made doll to look like Sailor Moon. I remember I had a moon’s crest stick on my forehead almost every day after coming home from school and pretended maybe Tuxedo Mask will come for me.. haha.. But growing up, I don’t know any friends who was into Sailor Moon. So I kinda stopped my interest when I was in 6th grade maybe. It was a bit hard to maintain it because I knew no one who can play with me. Haha.

I think my favorite character was Sailor Jupiter. Maybe because she looks tomboyish ? But honestly I cannot really decide tho. I was loving them so much when I was a kid.

I just want to share my little bit of story. As I recalled, my childhood was a very happy one thanks to Sailor Moon. :D

I’m not really into Sailor Moon now, but Martina’s influence is a bit strong I might going back becoming a fan girl with Sailor Moon. Lol.

Seriously, thanks a lot for the vibrant lovely smile, Martina ! It made me so happy.
(Simon you are very lucky to have Martina !)

    Hugs and kisses !!!

  24. Okayyy, so I did that thing where I made an account to leave my first comment, even though I’ve been a long-time lurker! I have been in love with Sailor Jupiter since watching Sailor Moon on YTV in the 90s (long live The Zone!). Even though my mom made me a Sailor Moon costume in grade 3, I begged her for a follow-up and dressed up as Sailor Jupiter in grade 4, and she also fashioned a Sailor Jupiter birthday cake for me once (what can I say… I was a fan and my mom is awesome). Sailor Jupiter NOT ONLY had a brown-haired ponytail like me (as did Sporty Spice, my other idol of choice), but was also such a strong person – way stronger and cooler than quiet little me at the time. One of my favourite moments (even after watching the whole anime again in my adulthood) is the classic Sailor Jupiter figure skating episode. She lifts that man over her head like it ain’t no thang! Watching the new Sailor Moon Crystal, I was a little disappointed that the Scouts weren’t given a lot of airtime to really flesh out their personalities. That’s why the original anime will always have a special place in my heart! Anyway, regardless of whether or not I win, thanks for giving me a forum in which to vomit my Sailor Moon love all over the place. You’re never really too old for Sailor Moon!

    • Congrats on winning! ^_^!! You should post a pic of the Special Capsule toy that Martina picked out for you!

    • HAHAHA! I just did the same :D! And yes…the Zone…good times! Remember Snit?! He distrubed my parents lol!

      • SNIT WAS THE WORST! Hahaha I just saw your comment too, and I have to say, I FORGOT ABOUT THE SAILOR MOON CASSETTE TAPE! I am fairly certain I would still be able to at least hum along to “Rainy Day Man” and “I Wanna Be a Star”… omg, love.

  25. Hi Simon and Martina! I’ve been following you guys for a little over a year now, but it’s my first time leaving a comment…on any platform….ooooh nerve-racking lol! ANYWAY, I always look forward to your new videos and love to re-watch the old ones too. I’m always super jellie of all the delicious foods you eat!!! I felt a particular drive to respond to this post as the Sailor Moon franchise was SUCH a huge part of my childhood, as I’m sure it was with many girls. For birthdays and Christmas, all I ever wanted was Sailor Moon stuff; I still have it all somewhere in my parents’ basement, safely stored away (which I should really dig into sometime soon :P). Guys, I even had the Sailor Moon music cassette tape! I remember being 9 years old in my faded pink pajama dress and being the first to wake up at 7am on a Saturday morning to watch the next Sailor Moon episode on YTV (Canadian 90s kid’s programming represent!!!!). The Crystal Clear Destiny episode solidified my obsession! And to answer your question, Sailor Moon was my favourite. I related to her the most. Like me, she was this kind, clumpsy, slightly insecure, outwardly ditsy but inwardly brilliant girl. At the same time, she was leading a team of kick-ass super power females. It inspired my young self :D! Anyway, I hope to become a regular commenter and to meet some new cool, like-minded people here!!!

I hope this gets to you because I was wondering if there are any other cool and amazing places like this in Japan. I’m headed there in two weeks and then I’m off to Korea and Vietnam after so I hope I can get some feedback before I go. I love your videos and hope there are money coming that feature tons of drool worthy food porn.

  27. Don’t enter me in the contest- as much as I like winning stuff I want someone who is more of a fan than I am to win! But my favorite character is Luna- she just tries to take care of everyone, especially Sailor Moon, and she makes me think ‘mom role’. I would want to be an advisor like her.

This cafe and art exhibit looks absolutely great! As I said before, not a huge fan, but I know I would enjoy the displays. I love all the gorgeous paintings and costume stuff :)

I belive my favorite character of Sailor moon is Sailor moon itself, specially keeping in mind she sacrifices herself in the Galaxy Cauldron to fight Chaos, she knows that without destroying the Cauldron she cannot destroy Chaos and just merges with it, yet still does it with the idea that despite chaos is going to resurge at some point, good will also.
All the love from Peru, guys!

  29. OMG i’m soooo jelllyy!! That place looks gorgeous and the food yummy ♥♥ I’m a bit torn with who is my favorite scout T.T Even when I was young listening to Sailor Moon on the t.v. I rooted for three XD Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter. Sailor Moon becuse she was like bit a big silly goofball who always fall because she’s a dreamer. Sailor Mars because of my black hair and my love for ancient culture and peace and Sailor Jupiter for the tough and independant woman she is ♥♥♥ So I can’t choose a favorite even now because I identify myself to those three. Message for Martina: your hair style was sooo cute in the video ♥♥♥

  30. I always liked Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter the most because I saw a little of myself in them, but also wanted to be inspired by them. I mean first of all Sailor Mercury really rocks her blue hair and her powers may not be that strong in comparison to others, but because she is smart, it’s enough for her. Any other Scouts coulnd’t pull of the things she did. I felt drawn to her because she is shy and she doesn’t rub her cleverness in the face of the others. I also adored her for her silent strengh she gave of and how she supported her friends the same way. For Sailor Jupiter it was the physical strengh and the way she carried herself, actually more of the whole package she presents. I mean she is a confindend in herself but sometimes she can be pretty selfconcious. She isn’t always the bravest Person, and she knows it, she accepts it and trys to work on herself. I also find her realy adorable sometimes, when she is praised and blushes or when she wore the Maid – Outfit for the School Festival. I really would have liked her as an older sister.
I think the main reason why i always liked those two the best is, that they don’t draw too mutch attention to themself and are super serious about the role they take on, they also have there struggles and problems but they try to face them, how they think it’s the best. It’s something i admired about them.
Another person I love is Seiya, even thought she/he doesn’t belong to the sailor moon scouts. Just wanted to mention it. When i have a bad day i like to watch some of those episodes with him and usagi.they are just too funny and i still laugh very hard, every time i watch them.

  31. Oh wow! That Luna dessert looks amazing:D I wish I was there!

My favourite character was Sailor Mercury. I watched the show when I was quite little and I just loved her blue hair – that was the only thing I could see – I guess I didn’t understand the whole story(or I wasnt concentrated enough to follow it) but THAT HAIR!! I also loved her spell which in original version is “shabon spray!” which in polish version (i’m from Poland) was ridiculously translated into a rhyme “mydło-powidło!” – which directly means “SOAP – MARMALADE!” or “SOAP-JAM!”. I guess I ‘ve always loved a good marmalade(or jam):D
Also – great to see your new video – I have found out your channel recently and I’m a dedicated watcher ever since:) I would like to let you know that your videos are awesome – I love to discover new things about different cultures and your videos are so funny, entertaining and loaded with super interesting info! I hope you are doing great,

    Big greetings from POLAND!

  32. SAILOR MERCURY! Way back in middle school (yup, been a fan for about 20 years) my friends and I were Sailor Moon fanatics. There were six of us so we each chose a scout and one girl choose Queen Beryl. Every Christmas we gifted each other Sailor merch, and I still have my Sailor chapstick cause I couldn’t bring myself to use it!

    • Oops, cut my own comment off and couldn’t figure out how to edit. Anywho, back then I chose Sailor Mercury as my spirit anime cause I loved that she was smart, rational, but also kind. Characteristics that I hope to always possess. Luv reading everyone’s comments on how much Sailor Moon has inspired them!

  33. Wow I have never been to your blog before and I am already in love! I love your writing style and the little Spudgy looking at me from the left corner!! Sorry that my picture is upside down by the way…I’m not very good with technology lol!

My favorite character in Sailor Moon is actually Sailor Moon! I love how she is not the smartest person in the world but can still be a hero! I always love ironman but I could never be Tony Stark cuz I am just not a genius. Sailor moon taught me that anyone could be a hero. You don’t have to be smart, rich, or amazing to save the world, you can save the world as just an ordinary high school student. Love ya Martina!! Hope you read this! This video made my day!!

  34. Wah, it’s all so cute!!!!

Of the inner senshi, Sailor Jupiter is my favorite. She’s super strong, tall, and curvy, and she totally kicks butt! But she doesn’t want to be defined by just one aspect of herself, so she also enjoys cooking and gardening–I love baking too (because I love eating the food when it’s done), and while I don’t garden, I do love flowers too. It’s great to see a character that has multiple dimensions and isn’t “typecast” as one thing.

Of the outer senshi, I can’t quite decide between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Pluto. I like Sailor Uranus for pretty much the same reasons as I like Sailor Jupiter–she also kicks total butt and she doesn’t care what others think and is confidently herself. Sailor Pluto is also insanely strong, but she’s always so calm, quiet, and collected (her attack “dead scream” is pretty intimidating/intense). Also, I think it’d be fun to cosplay as her because of her hair and earrings, haha.

  35. So pretty so pretty!

Hmm… My favourite character is… Sailor Moon. I love how she grows in the manga from being childish, to someone who values the importance of life and becomes the strong character that she truly is.

  36. Hi Guys, first time coming on your page, I must say that your videos are hilarious and now I’m always looking for your next video.
A have a question that has nothing to do with sailor moon, although as a teenager I identified myslef with jupiter.
I saw on your Sailor moon cafe video you were using a sony α camera with a lens cap on but with a hole in it (more like a rectangle). May I ask what is the cap for? and what sony α is?
I’m a wedding videographer and been tented and hesitant at the same time to get one. How does it work for you? do you use it for photo only or video too? is the cap for lighting purposes (I’ve heard that the camera is very sensitive to light… picture overexpose).
Sorry to live this none related comment I don’t know how to reach you and I would like to hear a real life review
    =)

    • Ah! That’s a lens hood. It came with our macro lens. I think – and I could be wrong here – it’s to prevent light from bleeding into the shot. Though some people like that look, some avoid it. We just kept it on because it protects the lens a little more.

But this is just a guess. We asked other people as well what it’s for, and they don’t know either. We’re not that we’ll versed in lenses. We just like the A7s bodies, which is what we focus on the most.

  37. My favorite Sailor Scout is Sailor Saturn. When I first watched Sailor Moon S as a child I was completely captivated with Saturn. Yeah, she was destined to mess stuff up, but it wasn’t a destruction and death thing, it was more of a destruction and rebirth which is cool. It reminded me that even though we think that we might know everything, there are multiple sides to everything and that should be taken into consideration when going through life. I also would really like a Silence Glaive. That thing is legit.

  38. OMG OMG OMG!!! I wish I could go there sooooooo bad!!! I would totally end up maxing out my credit card trying to buy everything too :) My favorite sailor scout is sailor mercury and I admit it’s for silly reasons. My favorite color is blue and I was a total nerd in school that was always getting made fun of. I was that lame kid that actually liked learning stuff and would study on my own. So, sailor mercury just really appealed to me, especially when I was still in school. It was nice to see a nerdy kick butt kind of super hero that I could kind of relate to…..that was also blue :)

  39. I like Sailor Neptune the most cause she is so pretty, and because she is one of the outer scouts, she isn’t shown much, and I’m pretty disappointed in that. I like her cause her symbol thingamajiger is a mirror, and she uses talismans, they are very, Japanese oriented i think (?) and she is just so pretty. She has blue hair, and is just so calm and like (what is that word? oh well i forget) Although, if i had to chose one from the inner scouts, then i would choose Venus, cause i love the Greek, Roman, Egyptian, etc gods, goddesses, and myths. They are intriguing and i like to imagine a world where these things are real, and the “myths” are true. (everything I’m talking about here is from the older version of Sailor Moon, cause I’ve yet to watch the newer one.)

This is the end of my rant.
Have a good day, and a great summer, guise, and i hope everything is okay and that you don’t feel pained, Martina. XOXO.

    Kpop fan right here.good day
