Hello everyone!

Ok math people: help me figure out the odds of me losing so bad. From what I remember in one of my classes in OAC, the odds of me drawing the skull 4 times would be 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3, no? So that would make it 1/81? That’s not the right answer though, I think. There’s another way of calculating it. AH! If only Kurt was here. KURT HUGO SCHNEIDER! I doubt you’re reading this, but you did University math, and we played math games together in Korea. What would the answer be?

Regardless of the answer, it’s unbelievably crappy that I lost so much. WHY?! HOW?! Let me tell you, though: I was really afraid of those jellybeans, but they’re not nearly as bad as I thought they’d be. They actually tasted not bad. They had a good burn to them, but not nearly as scary as I thought it’d be. The liquorice was far worse. FAR WORSE.

Speaking of spice, last night we were in Bakawarai, and we have a new reason to love them: they have a new spice container full of scorpion spice. They brought it over to us and showed us as a joke, but we covered our food in it. They stared at us aghast. But we ate it all up and loved it. OH MAN! On bad pain days, really good spicy food helps a bit. Get a hot burn in your mouth and it distracts you from joint pain, but now we can go to Bakawarai and eat their food with insane spice. This pleases us profusely.

Otherwise, now, at last, you get a better introduction of Dan. We’ve known him for roughly half a year now, and he’s been helping out with some of our videos. He works with Breaker, which is who we work with as well, and we’ve all formed a nice little family together. He came with us to Oshima, and Norway as well, and he pretty much built the Eat Your Sushi set we record these videos in. He’s great! He is a bit camera shy, though. Not everyone’s comfortable on Camera. Dan’s more comfortable behind it. And, in case you’re wondering, 50,000 likes on the video will get Dan to MARRY YOU FOREVER!

Want to know something weird? Monday and Tuesday are our weekend. Because we work on getting Eatyoursushi ready for Monday morning, we usually have to spend Saturday and Sunday working on it (yes, we are so painfully slow at editing). And now our weekend begins! And what’s great about a Monday and Tuesday weekend is that we can do stuff like go to the bank. Yay! And it’s not as crowded in the park like it is on the weekends. DOUBLE YAY! So that’s it for now. Time to go out and play :D

  1. Hahaha~ Oh my goodness, please don’t call people or living beings ふるい (furui)! That word is only for objects. The correct word for an old living being is 年上 (としうえ – toshi ue). The kanji literally translate to “year up.”

  2. OMG pink excavator! Once I saw a violet one and i was so amazed by it. If i saw a pink polka dot one i would probably literally die of its cuteness.

  3. facebook is like the community hall of small towns, people buy and sell everything on facebook from houses, and livestock to jobs haha.
sometimes theres even drama over who owns a stray cat, or who should own it.

and everyone wants to know who your parents are and their parents and where they work. and its a huge deal if you went to a big well known college or uni or even just lived in the city for a while!
everyone knows where you live its awful D:

but also small towns can be super friendly so long as you never piss off the wrong person. and you have the convenience of those facebook buy and sell pages. the land is cheaper and theres lots of space for dogs and cats. not much in the way of restrictions on pets, lots of other animal lovers

  4. hey guise! I’m not sure if this counts as a WTF, but the Taiwan snacks video was quite the failure! you totally thought everything was gonna be gross, and yet the snacks were delicious!

  5. I grew up in a REALLY small town in the countryside and the people snooping into your business thing is way bigger and way more obnoxious than city people think it is. We literally caught people using binoculars to catch a glimpses into our kitchen/bedrooms, sticking their heads through our hedge or circling our house with the bicycle for hours to see who’s leaving and who’s currently in the house. Not to mention people being generally nosy & gossipy and talking smack 24/7. And they’re absolutely shameless about it as well, they’re not even embarassed when caught, they rather seem to think that it’s their prerogative to do that. I would never ever move back to the countryside in my entire life, I appreciate the anonymity of the big city.

Not to mention not having to mow the lawn, spending hours to pick up windfall from out apple trees or sweeping the front yard every day because the tractors that passed by left behind a trail of straw, hay, poop & chaos.

  7. Hi Simon and Martina. To answer the question of your video: One of the WTF fiasco you had was the Takara Tomy egg pudding maker.

  8. What is the eta for the Eyk shop coming back up?

    • We have finally made some fun stuff, and we’ve figured out the postal service system in Japan. Now we just gotta enter the info into the site and we’re good to go! Should be another week or two, I’m thinking :)

      • ***OMG!!*** I’m so excited & can’t wait ^_^! Hopefully, you guise can also add some tunes as well all the adorable Spudgy & Meemers merch — I need a new ringtone ^_^. Much love!

  9. Hey Simon and Martina!
I have a question regarding university. I have graduated ffrom high school and now I am supposed to go to university in october. My problem is, that I have no idea how to choose from the wide variety of courses, so naturally I feel a little lost. Maybe you could give me advice on how to choose and how to generally adapt to university. Did you work part-time while being a student? Thanks in advance :)
(btw I love your videos! Eatyoursushi is the reason why monday is my fav day of the week now :D)

  10. I’m laughing just thinking about the Takara Tomy Egg Pudding Maker because Simon was SO DETERMINED TO MAKE THE PUDDING and the pudding never happened. :(

  11. I’ve lived in a 12+ million inhabitants city and in pretty small ones, and I have to say, while people end up knowing a lot about you in small cities, I didn’t experience the nasty/gossipy side of it. Mostly people worried about us more than we would expect (like if we didn’t show up somewhere we were regulars for a while, or when I’m travelling and my SO is alone, etc.). Overall, it was a very nice experience! We didn’t have any friends going in and the community feeling helped a lot with not getting lonely.
Also, peppers are actually legit good for pain! The compound that causes burning also has pretty dope anti-inflammatory properties and the like.

  13. THE EGG PUDDING MAKER !!!!
Simon literally finished all the eggs they had …

  14. Some funny disappointing wtf’s
The ‘pudding’ maker – it only made scrambled eggs in a shell
The Dog umbrella – that died in one use and had you walk in a 50 cm radius from Spudgy
The Ball cleaner – i think it should just be a toy for Meemers
Taiwanese snacks – okay i know it wasn’t a real wtf segment, but it was really funny how you expected it to be gross and all turned out great. Best disappointment ever I’d say! ^^

So I’ve lived in a small town in Tennessee in the US for the past 11 years and I will say that I never fully appreciated it until I left last year to live in Hong Kong for 5 months. When I got home, I just fell in love with country life. It is most definitely similar to True Blood in a lot of ways (minus all the vampires and werewolves). And yes, people do learn your business pretty quick. For example, my Dad got kicked out city hall a couple weeks ago and just a couple hours afterwards, I had friends asking me about it. But I love you always run into friends and the sense of community is so strong, but if you want privacy, your house is pretty far from your neighbor so you can get away from other people. I don’t think I could ever live in a city!

  16. Okay as someone who has seen/lived in Small Town, USA (not a real place, just an expression): The food choices are typically limited and not as good as in cities, the neighbors are often “not up to date on what is appropriate to call people/how to treat people who are different from one’s self” (read what you will of that), and there is so little to do. Okay way to retire, if you can travel and move around, but not so great when related to actually living there. So, I would pass on that if I were you.

And yes Simon, you were robbed. Sorry to say, but awesome great job guys this week! I really love watching your videos and watching you evolve in your editing style. Its probe my favorite things! Y’all’s rocks!!!!

  17. In the episode, “Takara Tomy Egg Pudding Maker”, you testing a machine that promised that by spinning an egg very quickly and boiling it for half an hour, it would make egg pudding. After wrapping the spun egg in plastic wrap and boiling it, the result was just an overcooked egg. Following the failed first attempt, Simon didn’t give up hope and kept trying different boiling times. Nothing made the egg into pudding. :(

  18. I have the million dollar question. Do you play Pokemon Go…? If not, why?! Time to catch ’em all.

  19. That awkward moment where early on in the game the like tally is past 75000. Poor Dan, how are you going to handled the playful offerings of your body,by two not so helpful friends, as they toss you to the wolves. Hoping you all can find a happy solution that keeps you comfortable and satisfy crazy fans.
Wishing you the best, Blue Haired Beth from Seattle.

  20. For this weeks skill testing question of WTF fails the obvious and more recent one is the Takara Tomy Egg Pudding Maker, another is the Crappy Dog Umbrella that did not keep Spudgy dry at all.

  23. The one that comes to mind is the Takara Tomy Egg Pudding video. My friends and I quote it all the time. “BOO Yourself!” So pun-y!

  24. The two biggest fails that I can think of are the egg pudding maker that made Simon so sad and the soju+beer mixer…that also made Simon so sad. It doesn’t really count as a fail, but one of my favorite wtf’s is the poo perfume that smelled like grandma’s. For whatever reason, I have started seeing poo things here for sale and I think of that every time. Now, the real fake question of the day is…if you get those 50,000 likes does Dan marry all of us and become a polygamist or do you put everyone’s name into a drawing and pick one? :)

  25. The egg pudding maker was a potential food poisoning WTF fail of all WTF fails.

OAC! Most people have no idea about those classes…and now I feel old. LOL

  26. Oh my goodness, small towns are terrible when it comes to knowing everything about everyone. My in-laws live in a small town in Alaska that’s actually on an island. You can only fly or boat into town, so people leave or come to the town much. There’s only one doctor so if you’re friends with him it could be really awkward if you need a naked type exam! Also this past week two teenagers died when their driver had a seizure going to get a cup of coffee before going to a fun run on the 4th of July celebration. The entire town went into mourning because everyone knew these kids. So while it’s nice that you know everyone and feel close as a town it’s not like in TV shows. Also, can’t run to the store looking like a hot mess without seeing half your acquaintances :P

  27. Martina and Simon I used to watch all your WTF. it was actually my favorite thing on your Channel. I remember the breast roller thing not working well at all. The Takara Tomy Egg Pudding Maker didn’t work at all either and Simon tried so hard to get it too. let’s not forget the “Japanese Sex Doll Mouth Maker” which Purpose with only torture. You should so make more WTF, I love them more than you loved your cupcakes as a wager that Martinez threw against the wall. <3 I also remembered the soju holder, I'm pretty sure you got two of those.
p.s:I love you guys I hope you have a great day, Simon I feel bad for you. Dan try not to feel uncomfortable we're all a bunch of nasties. (\^w^/)

  28. With regards to the probability of Simon getting skull all four times, the probability is 1/81. Each event is independent and has probability 1/3, meaning that the probability of getting skull all four times is (1/3)^4=1/81. The odds of it happening are 80:1 (80 to 1).

Also, I’m from a small town (population of around 3000 to 5000) in rural Kentucky. Everyone knows your business at all times. If someone has any gossip on you, you should just expect it to be heard by everyone you know (and several people you don’t know).

  29. Smacap! The ever so useful bandana, scrunchy, blindfold, ninja mask, and top all in one.

  30. Hi guys! To answer the weekly question the WTF failures I’ve watched were the egg giga pudding that Simon tried so hard to make, the multiple massage/ torture devises like the spiky ball things for your hands and the boob roller that pinched your skin, and the somek pourer that fizzed up the beer too much so you couldn’t drink it.

  31. For the Korean edition of the WTF, there were the Yoghurt Doritos, FALSLY advertised as Cool Ranch Doritos (sorry Simon), the Armpit Maxipads, the Korean Army Food (Martina’s was the worst between the two), the Evil Cat Unicorn (which eventually worked on Spudgy for a short period of time), the Korean V-LIne Face Masks, the Dog Umbrella and the Diet Hula Hoop (of DEATH).

As for the Japanese edition of the WTF segment, the Strawberry Curry and the supposed Egg Pudding Maker (lies) were the winning champions.

Love you guys and your videos and hello from Montreal!

  32. The one where you tried to go to the prince coffee shop on Halloween but ended up in a creepy forest with random stops with exercise equipment and “mountain coffee” and you sang kpop songs the entire time. You guys had to take a taxi (that took you literally around the corner) and went to the cupcake shop instead. Simon ate all the cupcakes as part of Martina’s punishment!

  33. Skill testing question: The original 소맥 contraption you tried failed terribly, and the takara tomy egg pudding maker was a disaster, but we all saw that coming, didn’t we?

  34. Yay Dan appearance! I was totally waiting for Martina to somehow reveal that she had rigged the game so Simon would have to eat all the things, but it seems it was just some super bad luck for our Dothraki man warrior this time around.
My favorite WTF fail has to be the “easy soju and beer mixer” somaek contraption. The look on Simon’s face when he poured out an entire cup of beer head was too funny XD

  35. One of my favorite WTF failures was the doggy umbrella you had spudgy try on! poor little guy went from white to brown from all the mud haha

  37. People getting all up in your business ABSOLUTELY happens in small towns. I have a few Facebook friends who still live in the small town I grew up in, and when something gossip worthy happens in town they all get on Facebook to see who knows what, who saw what, etc. I also always remember a job I once had where one of my coworkers called off her wedding. I went into the break room one day, and everyone was in there discussing how they had seen her at a local festival with some unknown MAN. There were gasps. I happened to know that coworker pretty well, and informed everyone that yes, she had been at the festival with her brother who was in town visiting. They all looked so disappointed.

    • Ah. It’s odd: I’ve seen a few comments talking about how big Facebook is in small towns. We…actually don’t use Facebook. We post stuff on our Simonandmartina page, but we personally don’t talk to people via Facebook or share pictures or status or anything like that.
