Speakers’ Corner: AKMU and Brownies!

Welcome to our latest edition of Speaker’s Corner, where people stop by our coffee shop, You Are Here Cafe, step into our video booth, and talk for a couple of minutes about what’s on their mind.

Finally! Here’s the video of AKMU we filmed a while ago. Yes, it is a lot shorter than you might have expected. They were at the cafe filming an interview for another program. I don’t know what. They were looking for a nice place to shoot, so they used the cafe, obviously! I have no idea where the video is, though, if it’s even online. If anyone sees an interview of AKMU wearing the same clothes as you see them wearing here, please share it! Anyhow, they just stepped in the booth for a quick hello, rather than for a full promo thingy, so…here it is! They’re cute :D

Also, I know we did the Kpop topic last week, and we don’t usually plan on having the same topic for more than one week in a row, but we found that people were really passionate about the question, and had a lot more to say. Next week we’ll get to the other questions we pose in the booth!

And, for those of you who haven’t tried them yet, yes, we make great brownies. Out of zucchini, too. Seems like our first speaker in the booth really likes them, though :)

  1. The blonde lady has NINE kids?? Man, that is so incredibly inspirational :D! Too many people are telling you that as soon as you become a mother, you are not allowed to do things for yourself anymore.

I don’t know, I just really found that very awesome. Also, BROWNIE :D!!

  7. AKMU! I just want pinch those kids cheeks. Especially Suhyun. Hey, I’m technically old enough to be her mom, I can pinch her cheeks. :-P Seems many interviewers like to use the You Are Here Cafe to conduct interviews. At least I believe I remember it being mentioned in previous Speaker’s Corners.

Those brownies look DELICIOUS! Can you smoosh some through the WiFi and send some my way? That IS how the internet works, right?

  12. This was a really cute episode! And now I want brownies. But I did just make some cinnamon banana bread, so I guess I’ll live ;)
As for the kpop question, well, as a fan of JYJ and TVXQ I am already well acquainted with the pain of having your group split up. But hey, look how well JYJ are doing now, and they left their company so don’t lose hope that you’ll never see your artists again just because they leave their initial group! Much as it sucks and hurts to see people you care about suffering and friendships getting bruised and battered. All we can really hope for is that all of this chaos and sadness and lawsuits and all that leads to better conditions for kpop kids in the future *crosses all fingers and toes*

  20. Super cute! I really love this segment. Last time I was in the cafe, I saw the booth, but I was too nervous to say something. Maybe next time I’m in Hongdae, I will have to try and record something. p.s. Would you ever consider adding cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, etc. to the pumpkin related drinks? I had the pumpkin shake last time, and it was super delicious, but I think it would be even more delicious with some spices! Maybe I am just a spice freak ^^ Thank you for being awesome!

  25. Heya, I want to point out that you added icons to the two youtuber’s channels, but didn’t add outgoing links (or whatever those are called). So maybe you could post the links in the video description box or add the hyoerlinks(?)? I really want to check out the two channels.

  26. I love Speaker’s Corner. Why? I’m not sure; I just do. Also love AKMU. They are too cute. The best bit of this video: the mom of 9!!! To juggle parenting and dedicate to learning Korean online. She’s awesome 대박!!

    • Thanks! We had a Korean exchange student who introduced us to Kpop, Kdramas, and Infinite. Since then we are all hooked! My kids are ages 5-14. My oldest daughter speaks Korean better than me. On 카톡 my ID is Jessigyu if anyone wants to say hello :)

  27. Dear Santa, for Christmas I would love an airline ticket to Korea so I can visit the You Are Here cafe, among other cool places. (Not at all to stalk K-pop and k-drama stars)
    Sincerely, Me

P.S. Santa have you lost weight? =D

And the last couple was so cute! I would have loved to hear their whole story ^^ But what does it mean, language exchange program? That you meet another person and you two teach other your language?

    • language exchanges are quite common. there’s a site that you can go on and look for people looking to learn your language and the teach you yours. forgot the url but if you google it I’m sure you can find one.i make brownies with chilies in them.
