I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and/or a Happy Holiday! Whether you celebrate it or not, I hope you got some time off of work. Christmas time in Korea is a interesting time of year. For those of you that don’t know, Korea doesn’t celebrate Christmas like we’re used to back home in Canada, it’s actually considered to be a couple holiday akin to Valentine’s Day. We talked a bit about it in last week’s blog but to fully explain it, you had better get your date an awesome gift on December 24th or else the 25th will be an angry day. The 24th is almost like a test run to see if you’re still going to keep dating, like a “my boyfriend/girlfriend sucks because the didn’t get me anything so we’re over” kindof angry Valentine’s Day way. That’s what makes Christmas a depressing time of year for Koreans because people want to be out with a date not at home. Many single people just avoid going out because it’s usually just couples taking over. In fact, there is a joke response when someone asks you what you’re doing for Christmas if you’re single. You should respond with “Oh, I’m staying home with my Kevin” which really means staying home and watching Home Alone. Hahahhahh very clever indeed! As for us, we did indeed stay home.
The whole EYK Team and some friends came by our house for dinner, drinks, and Christmas movies! Elf! Just Friends! Die Hard! Yes, Die Hard is totally a Christmas movie. Anyhow we had a great time and they next day was spent watching, MORE CHRISTMAS MOVIES! The Holiday! Love Actually! No more crying movies for me. I’m all cried out. Also, for those of you that watch Die Hard it’s now really hard to not say…POTTER…overtime Snape, I mean, Alan Rickman comes on the screen. It was like non-stop screaming of 10 POINTS FOR SLYTHERIN when he did something. Wow I have digressed. Point is, great Christmas, I did miss my family but being surrounded by friends that are like family is a wonderful comfort. You know what else is a wonderful comfort? The good time feels of today’s Speaker’s Corner. Lots of adorable people! I loved that adorable couple with that “give me some sugar” line. What about the adorable singing at the end of the video. OMG how cute was that? I knew the song they were singing instantly but did you? If you know the song let me know in the comment section below. And also, let us know what your holiday season is like! Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, did you still get time off? Or is it just another day? Is it hot or cold where you are from because Christmas is synonymous with cold for us Ontario Canadians! Let us know, and see you in 2015!
