Tokyo Ghost Bar

We’ve been eyeballing this place for months now! It’s right beside the park, and every time we walk towards the park we hear the faint echoing sounds of the Tokyo Ghost Bar. And now, in the spirit of Halloween, we’re finally going!

So, the place we went to is called Kichijouji Ghost Izakaya Yurei. What’s clever about it is that YUUREI ゆうれい (幽霊) means “ghost”, but they created the name of the Izakaya using two different Kanji: 遊麗. The first Kanji is also YUU which means “play”, while the second Kanji is REI and means “cuteness.” So it means Ghost, but it also means Cute Play. HOLY SHIT THAT’S SO CLEVER! Because this is a Ghost bar, but it’s also cute and not just scary, since everyone is so happy and playful. Well, at least that’s what I’ve been told the Kanji. We can’t read Kanji worth a damn. But if that’s true then it’s awesome!

Side note: this place is run in part by Korean people. We’re sure of it. There’s a lot of Korean on the menu. The appetizers are called Namul, which I’m pretty sure are Korean beansprouts. And they have kimchi, legit kimchi: not the sweet stuff we sometimes find in Japan. And they have Jeon. We’re verrrrry suspicious. But we were also really happy to have good kimchi again :D

Anyhow, if you’d like to come here, we highly recommend it. It’s super cute and fun! It’s not the best food out there, but you’re coming for the fun rather than the noms. It’s located in 1 Chome-8-11 Kichijoji Minamicho, Musashino, Tokyo 180-0003. You can find more about it here, or you can call 0422-41-0194 for reservations.

Side note: if you’re looking for the winners of the Halloween candy from our Halloween food in Japan video, we’ll be announcing them in our next Eatyoursushi episode. It’s coming this Monday. We’re not traveling this time!

Lastly, if you’d like to see some more, we’ve got bloopers below. We couldn’t really show it, because it’d be weird, but there were two people beside us making out HARD! But not sexy hard. Slow, awkward hard. The girl was uncomfortable and squeamish. The guy kept trying to get her to touch his boner. It was funny and super awkward. I’m not sure if that’s the setting I’d want to get it on in. But we had a good chuckle, at least :D

  2. Hello, I have a question about the new merch. What currency is it in? It doesn’t say so I’m not sure if USD or Canadian or AUD. Need to know if I can afford a sweet, sweet Spudgy t-shirt.

  3. Hi guys! Love your channel. Have been following for potentially 7 years now but have never commented..now I realize how much a stalker I am! Haha! Anyway, I lived in Japan for 4 years (1 year study abroad (2010-11) and 3 years working in Kanagawa (2012-15)) and love to see you both loving it! I even visited Seoul a couple of times and visited your cafe. :) I’m so pleased to see how much Halloween is growing there! If you want to check out another themed bar, I might recommend Lock-up in Shibuya. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1066456-d3359390-Reviews-The_Lock_up_Shibuya-Shibuya_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html It has the vibe of a haunted jail, which is pretty cool and very much with the Halloween theme. :D Wishing you all the best and a Happy Halloween from London, Katie <3

  4. Hello,

I wanted to ask if it was possible for you to create a link to a collection of all the crossover videos you guys have done. In your spare time. Because I wanted to re-watch the origin of “Loser Simon” without searching and searching.

I live in the US. I was looking at all the merch that has sprung up out of Donald Trump’s reference to Hillary Clinton as “A Nasty Woman”. Seeing the word ‘Nasty’ in this context is the only thing about this election that has made me laugh. So, I suggest the following: Eat Your Sushi, If You’re Nasty. You probably already did this but hey. Other option: I Can’t Stay Calm, I’m Nasty.

    out, kisses

  5. Hi Simon and Martina! I’ve been lurking on your YouTube and website for a little over a month now. I think you guys are great. I ran across Pipsticks (https://www.pipsticks.com/) today and instantly thought of Martina’s love of stickers so when you get your first sticker pack, it was from me. :)

  6. Hi Simon and Martina!!
I loved how Simon used your newly discovered phrase, “ムリムリムリムリ…(muri muri…)” in the blooper! and you sounded completely native too lol
I have recently moved from Tokyo to Paris to pursue my phd studies, and from my craving for Japan related videos on one helplessly lonely night, I discovered your channel. While my newly life is super exciting, I am often very alone and feel helpless too. Your videos of Japan allows me to see my home town in a new and exciting light, and cheers me up a lot! Thank you truly and I hope you keep having fun!!
But your food videos are really a torture, I’m munching on cheese and baguette and missing sushi and curry…

  7. Hey, you guise were eating your kimchee ^_^! So glad Martina won tonight even if she did get turned into a cute vampire at the end (the cat & owl earrings are sooo cute!). I’ve been too wrapped up in things to have commented before but I really love the Magic Mail & new Fat Fat Taco (shouldn’t it be “Tako”?) Head Wonderful Mystery Item finds segments (I lol’d @ Godzilla on the WTF island). Thank you both for constantly thinking up ways to share your lives with us. I know you guise open yourselves up to criticism by doing so (how dare some stranger try to tell you how to dress & how you “should” behave! Don’t listen *evar*!!!) so from the bottom of my heart: Thank you both for always brightening up my day.

  8. Simon’s winning streak has finally been broken :D And is this bar always themed like that or was it just for Halloween?

  9. That’s so cool you guys were able to go! I’ve heard that places of this genre are popular in Japan. Wonder if that’s correct or if it’s just seasonal? Fun fun. I really love your videos.

    • I’m glad you liked this video! Sorry we’ve been sparse with publishing lately. We’ve been traveling and have lots of videos filmed, but just don’t have them ready to publish yet. But our Hawaii videos should be coming next week, I think, and those are lots of fun :D
