The Meet Your Kimchi Tour!

We have officially put our locations, dates, and tickets up for sale for our Meet Your Kimchi tour this summer!

July 11: Vancouver, Canada
July 15: Seattle, Washington
July 18: San Francisco, California
July 26: Los Angelas, California
July 31: Houston, Texas
August 2: Atlanta, Georgia
August 6: New York, New York
August 9: Chicago, Illinois

You can check out the details for the tickets or click on the special tour logo on the top left side of the website.

We’ll announce the venues closer to the date since we’re using the ticket numbers to pick the right sized place and the ticket sales to put down our deposit for the venue. All that info will go up on that tour page so check back end of May/June for updates. Of course we’ll use the power of SOCCIIAAALL MEDDDIIIAAAA to let you know we’ve picked venues.

Also, we have a very exciting giveaway. Have you always wanted to visit Korea? We’ve teamed up with Airbnb in order to get you here! Four lucky people will win a round-trip ticket to Korea and on top of that, you’ll get Airbnb vouchers to pay for a five night stay in Korea. We visited your country; it’s time for you to visit ours. Check out the above video on how to win the contest and make sure you in include #airbnb2seoul so we can find your entry on the app! Do you have a phone that can’t support our app? Then leave you video on Instagram with the same tag and we’ll search for it there too!

We will be driving from Seattle to San Francisco in a very obvious and colourful Eatyourkimchi-mobile (this time it will be a Kia Sorrento to fit our month worth of luggage and gear) so if any of you live in the towns on the way and can’t make it to the event, hopefully you’ll catch us when we pass through and stop for food and legs stretches. We’ll update you on the towns we’re driving through via twitter, instagram, and our app while on tour.

We would also like to mention that we are so so so sad that we couldn’t make it to all the places we wanted to visit, but we had to narrow it down due to the ridiculous huge size of the USA and Canada. It was a seriously difficult decision with the EYK crew in the studio mapping out locations and figuring out travel time between cities, flight availability, seemycity votes, and deciding which cities are easiest for people to travel to via public transportation. I know it isn’t perfect but I hope we can meet as many Nasties as we can on this tour!

One day Simon and I plan on having a small East Coast Canada road trip where we can visit lots of Canadian Nasties (including Montreal) and we dream of one day doing a mega nerdy Florida/Orlando Wizarding World of Harry Potter meet up. Nasty Potterheads unite! I’ll bring my wang…I mean wand…ohh you so nasty!

Also I hope this tour is an opportunity for local Canada/USA Nasties to meet new people with similar interests and to discover new friends that might have been living close by (maybe even in your city) and you’ve just never had the right place to meet. Whenever we do a meet up our favourite part is the like-minded people coming together, joking about kpop or dramas, chatting about their plans to visit Korea, their love of learning about new cultures, or blurting out random EYK inside jokes and having everyone laugh along instantly. There is a lovely community feeling that comes with these meet ups so I hope no one feels worried about not having any friends if they are coming alone. Just stand in line at the Meetyourkimchi event and introduce yourself to anyone and you’ll be sure to make a new friend.

Hope to see you there and let us know if you’re coming so we can start the friendship ball rolling in the comment section below!

  13. How long are tickets going to be for sale? I want to go for Chicago’s meet up, but don’t know when I’ll be able to buy my ticket~

  14. Yeah, Chicago, my hometown! I miss it so.

Simon is right — Chicago has a huge Polish population, to the point where there’s a Polish UHF station, several newspapers, and depending upon where you are in the city, signage will be in English, Spanish, and Polish. Thanks to that I’ve picked up various Polish words like “uwaga.” :: laugh ::

There are some great places to eat in Chicago. I fell in love with Ethiopian cuisine because there is a stretch of restaurants on the north side of the city.

  15. I was hoping I could catch you guys in both San Francisco and Chicago, but my trip to SF is now going to be late June, instead of July (sad). But a Sunday in Chicago sounds fantastic. And I’ll definitely be entering the trip to Seoul contest. Yeah!!! Still sad Madison, WI didn’t make the list, but we’re pretty close to Chicago, so not that big of deal. Please, please have afternoon meeting opportunities, because I’ll need to do a day trip, which means leaving from Madison around 5am to get to Chicago by 9:30am, but then leaving Chicago by 7pm or 8pm to get back to Madison before midnight. Yes, that does mean 8hrs on the bus to meat you all, but totally worth it.

  17. so many NY nasties its gonna be a big group in Nyc

  18. I’m so glad you are coming to Seattle! I live on the other side of the state, but close enough that I can make it. Excited to meet you guys and all the nearby Nasties!

  19. Oh man, the second half of your trip is completely “Sweat Your Kimchi”. Hot and humid cities. You wouldn’t think New York and Chicago, but they both get pretty hot in summer. Nowhere near Houston though! Have fun with that! Be sure to hydrate!

I would also add that you guys have chosen many great food cities! Be prepared to feast! Might I suggest for referring to this guide for Chicago: http://graphics.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/dining/dining-guide/
It’s written by Kevin Pang, a popular food writer for the Tribune. He made 6 different food itineraries depending on your time and budget (his suggestions for someone with an expense account were ballin’ out of control!) A few places the he left off that I would add:
    Girl and the Goat
    Little Goat
    Ruxbin
    Longman and Eagle
    Big Star

    Chicago Classics:
Manny’s Delicatessan: Old style Jewish deli. Go if you want a gigantic corn beef sandwich and soul restoring matzo ball soup. You can get this kind of thing in New York and L.A., but I love how old school this place is. Popular with cops, politicians.
Gino’s East: Honestly, I’m not a fan of deep dish, but it’s like a rule for first time visitors.
Billy Goat Tavern: For whatever reason, goats keep turning up in the names of restaurants in Chicago. This is touristy, BUT if you go late at night, and ONLY to the original location beneath Michigan avenue, some of the drunken regulars are there. The food isn’t great, but the place has a lot of history, and if the employees aren’t too tired and grumpy, they can be fun (but if they are tired and grumpy, try not to take it personally).
Superdawg: Hot dogs are something Chicagoans WILL argue over. He suggests Portillo’s for hot dogs, but my favorite hot dog place is Superdawg on the northside. It’s down the street from The Red Apple, a polish food buffet that’s been around for a long time.
Also, Eater is an excellent source for finding good restaurants in ANY of the cities you will be visiting. The Eater 38 has kept me well fed when I travel.

    • Was just at Manny’s Deli on Friday. Was in Chicago for the Do Good Data Conference which was held at UIC Forum— so very close to Manny’s. It was delish. I had corn beef hash, which finally was mostly corned beef not small potatoes. My friend had the corn beef sandwich. For her, it was both breakfast and part of lunch. I would have loved to try the Matzo Ball Soup.

      • the same thing happened to me on my iphone and android tablet the problem on my iphone was that i didnt have the latest version of ios 8.3 because the eyk app was operating on the latest version so after i updated my iphone software uploading vids worked. i havent figured out the android problem yet though sorry if you own an android device.

        • It is indeed an android device. ;A; I’ll see about making an account on instagram later since they said that’s an alternative option.

  22. Woohoo! I’ve got my tickets for LA.

How will the trip winners be decided? Are you going to be picking randomly after watching the eligible entries? Do we need a *fist clenched* COMPELLING reason? Should I be visiting my dying grandmother who I can’t afford to go see? Is it enthusiasm, talent, best looking person? Whoever you just like the best? Stuff the ballot box for pure number of entries? Any insight would be appreciated.

  23. Woohoo Vancouver. Might go with my friend. Are we allowed to bring fan gifts to your venue? I want to give you guys more of those healthy cookies with veggies in them.

  24. Omg Chicago! I can’t wait to meet you guys!

  25. I have to get a train ticket and hotel now so I can go to NYC to meet you guys ^^;
If only I had a fellow nasty to come with me (◕⌓◕;)

    • yo, fellow nasty where are you traveling from? I’m also attending NYC solo….Let’s be friends! *nervously twirls hair* no pessure…

      • Yuup I’m flying from Miami and most likely attending the NYC event alone too xc

  26. It’s a pity you’ll end up missing both KCONs this year: you’ll be nowhere near LA when they host and even though you’ll be in greater NYC on the 8th when Newark hosts theirs you’ll more than likely have to travel to Chicago in order to be at your event there the next day.
Also I sadly won’t be able to make it to any of your events as they’re either too far away from New England or they’re on a work day for me. “sobs” I’d like to have been able to introduce you to two New England favorites, the fluffernutter sandwich and some Moxie to wash it down with.

  34. Will you guys hold door sales, or is it strictly online?

    • Strictly online. We don’t have the capabilities to do any door sales, or any merch sales, either, sadly :(

  35. I live in Boston, and was so sad to see you weren’t coming, until I remembered I was in Chicago in the beginning of August! I just bought my tickets and I am so excited to talk about Kpop, and Sailor Moon, and South Korean food, and yay!

    • Awesome, I just bought my tickets for Chicago too. It’s like a 5 hour drive but well worth it. Even got a room in Chicago through AirBnB. Woo-hoo. Can’t wait to see S&M in person. So happy they are coming to Chicago!! <3

    • Go purple and green nasties!!!

  36. Pretty good sized Korean community in San Fran (remember … the Jung Sisters – Jessica and Krystal AND Tiffany came from there) … you guys probably will find a goodly sized fan club.

  37. Simon and Martina! I have 2 questions. c: I plan to go to the Atlanta date but it may take a little bit of saving up. How long will the tickets be up for sale?
Also, if I enter the contest when I do get my tickets, is the prize only one ticket? I have anxiety and I can’t really go very many places on my own, especially somewhere foreign. It would induce some anxiety attacks ;-; So, if the prize is only one ticket, I probably won’t enter. I wouldn’t want to win and take someone else’s chance away of winning since I won’t be able to go on my own, and I for sure can’t afford to buy a second ticket for someone else to come with me. I was going to ask this on the video but I figured you’d be more likely to see this here c:

  38. Just got my ticket, yay! So excited for you guys to come to Chicago. See you in August :D

  40. Finally made an EYK account so I could buy tickets to the Los Angeles meetup. See ya’ll there.

    • Same here. What’s funny is that I have been watching the videos since their second apartment. I hope an older fan will be ok. And yes, I bought my ticket for the Los Angeles meet up.

      • First off, thank you for sticking with us for so long! And, as for being an older fan, we just saw someone in their 50s buy a ticket, so – don’t worry :D We’re not prime examples of youth ourselves!

        • I’m 46 and quite the fan so you reach a nice wide demographic.

    • So cool, thank you! :D We’re so excited to meet everyone. *breathes heavily*

      • Will we actually get to talk to you, or will it be the type of thing where you do something, then leave?

        • Every event that we’ve done, and every event that we’ll ever do, we’ll stay for as long as possible, until they kick us out or until something legal happens, or until we collapse. When we were in Mexico we stayed around until the security kicked us out, even when our noses started bleeding in front of everyone :D
