Hey guise! Here’s a short announcement video we wanted to share about an awesome all ages event happening on Friday November 28th – 30th with the You Are Here coffee shop and the community it’s located in!

So our studio is located in Hongdae which is an area that most people living in Korea know really well. It’s on the tourist maps now and it’s a common place to hangout on the weekends…but it wasn’t always like that. Located beside three major Universities, Hongdae was pretty much a student hangout area. It has changed a lot and blossomed into a really busy place with lots of name brand shops trying to get their teeth into the student-indie scene. But now that Hongdae is on the map and super busy, you might be looking for a new place in Korea to explore. The upcoming Urban Air Museum Event is exactly focused on that! The area it’s focusing on is the neighbourhood of Yeonnamdong 연남동.

Basically, (and I’m not trying to be old fart that doesn’t want to party anymore hahaha) Yeonnam-dong is the less crazy side of Hongdae, more like what Hongdae used to be like before it’s explosive popularity. Hongdae Station subway tracks splits the area in two: crazy busy Exit 8 and 9 will take you to the party club area, while Exit 1 and 2 will lead you out to the quieter Yeonnamdong which has been blossoming into a lovely artsy area. That’s actually why we choose to put the YAH Cafe on that side of the subway tracks (shakes my cane) because we didn’t want people barfing in our bushes. HAHAHAHAHA but truth. Also, if you’re staying at a Guesthouse in Hongdae it’s probably right beside the You Are Here cafe and you didn’t even realize it!

Sooooooo, this event (which is being organized by Urban Play, AirBNB, You Are Here Cafe, and more) is gonna have lots of events to offer for all ages, including live jazz and indie bands, Korean cooking lessons, Korean booze making lessons (hello!), art studio lessons, lectures by local surprise guests, and much more. The whole point is just to highlight the entire neighbourhood by getting as many cute coffee shops (ours being the coolest though, of course…right…guise…), art shops, studios, and guest-houses to open their doors in a mapped out treasure find kindof weekend! It’s like visiting an outdoor museum event, GET IT!!??? Urban Air Museum??!! GUISE??? *cough*

If you plan on coming, seriously stop by You Are Here Cafe first. No seriously. We’re hosting the Event Info Booth and we’re holding all the maps and timetables hostage and won’t share them unless you stop by. Plus, we’re having a bake sale with three different bakeries stopping by, we’re having a You Are Talented Flea Market (which you can rent a table at by sending us an email with your portfolio, we’re having a Korean Calligraphist, we’re going to have guest lectures upstairs, Korean cooking lessons, and more! Plus, we’re gonna be there with a special booth ourselves either selling Martina’s homemade baked goods, and we might even do a “We’ll Draw Your Portrait With Totally Inaccuracy” for a dollar! So much possible fun to be had. All together it will just have a lovely community vibe. Come meet some new people, make some new friends, bring your camera, get to vlogging, buy some unique local artwork, it’s gonna be great. Also, rumour has it Talk To Me in Korean might be hosting some kindof International Par-taaaaay at the cafe Saturday night…but more info to come!

Altogether, it’s a great way to spend your weekend. Wander around with your camera, grab some great shots, and share em on your blog (or the Eatyourkimchi App—just saying!), and experience a really cool new part of Korea :D

  5. Ah i’m so excited for this! I love Yeonnamdong, its my favourite neighbourhood in Seoul. I live just a few mins away so i’m always in the area. Its a great idea to show case the great things about the area, but I hope it will still be a long time until it becomes like the rest of gentrified Hongdae.

    Which Bakeries will be there?

  8. This sounds so cool but I’m living in the Netherlands so it’s going to be pretty impossible for me to participate. I wonder how many people on this website are actually living in Korea? It’s pretty cool though that Simon and Martina are kind of giving back to their area/city by organizing events like this…

  9. That’s so cool, but unfortunately I’m stuck where I live. And I know I’ll have to deal with tourists on the 29th who want to go on cruises…yay…. I am so lucky sometimes that I’m just a temp.
