YouTubers vs Kpop: the WongFu Edition!

Whoa! Look at me without a beard! This was filmed back in June. JUNE! But, as you know, lots of things get in the way. We opened a coffee shop, went on tour, launched an app. WongFu filmed a freaking feature film! So this was on the back burner for a while now, simply because it was so tough to find a way to get both of our schedules to overlap. But today’s the day! Ladies and gentlemen, here is our second instalment of YouTubers vs Kpop: the WongFu Edition!

You might remember our first YouTubers vs Kpop English we filmed last year during the YouTube Music Awards, when we had MysteryGuitarMan, the VFX Bro and Final Cut King. It was loads of fun. We decided to film a couple more instalments, this time with WongFu, back when we visited them in June. For our episode, we had them guess Kpop Lyrics. For their episode, we had them guess Kpop band and member names. And here they are! But for now, story time!

So, we drove over to the WongFu studio in Pasadena from our place in Culver City. It was a pretty smooth drive. We still didn’t experience any of this crazy LA traffic that we hear TV shows complain about. Every drive is so freaking smooth here!

When we got to the studio we met Phil first right by the parking lot. It was our first time meeting Phil. He’s a lot taller than I expected. Seriously: I thought he’d be something like 5’6. I’m not sure why. I think it’s his smile. People that smile that much must be compensating for something. But I was wrong. He’s just a smiling guy. And nice as all hell as well.

We walked up from the parking lot to their studio with Christine. We met Melody as well! All lovely people. Wes was gonna be out for an extra 30 minutes or so, so we just talked with Phil about travel, YouTubing, and doing other projects. We talked about our coffee shop, he talked about their movie. So weird now, remembering talking about something we didn’t build yet. Wow.

When we were filming with them, both Wes and Phil were hilarious. We did our best to keep straight faces and not give away any of the answers as we were reading them, but there were some parts where we flubbed up. For the life of us we can’t get Teen Top’s full name out without laughing uncontrollably. Holy hell is that the weirdest name ever!

I also appreciate how sensitive Wes and Phil were for the hardcore Kpop fans. They’d always be apologetic if they said something that would possibly get the hardcore Kpop fans upset, while we’re completely unapologetic. Ha! I also appreciate how fun they are on camera. Their reactions were great. And we felt like we could comfortably joke with them on camera just like how we talked with them off camera.

We did cut out a few questions, though. Some were pure gold, but we knew that the video would take reallllly long to edit. Really long. And we know that they’ve got a freaking movie to shoot: every extra minute of final footage is roughly an hour of editing, from our experiences. The more time we could shave off their video the better. To be honest, we were amazed that they wanted to shoot anything to begin with. We didn’t even suggest it! We just knew Wes back from Singapore, so we thought we’d just hang out in California for a bit, but he suggested we shoot some videos together. Woohoo!

Anyhow, check out their video here. Also, lots of fun:

Woohoo! We hope you liked the collaboration. And, lastly, I LOOK SO WRONG WITHOUT A BEARD!

  4. I don’t mean t be a buzzkill but I’m pretty sure the Teen Top “names” are not names but were just used in this one video…
And MBLAQ’s “live” most probably stands for the noun live, as in live perfomance.
I love Phil. He”s so sweet! Great collab!

  8. I love these youtubes vs kpop videos! They are hilarious! Those of us who are super into kpop are used to all the weird/ridiculous things that happen with kpop, but even though we realize, sometimes it takes some reminding about it, like with these videos. I had some really good laughs watching these!

  9. Did not know what Teen Top stood for. That was a surprise in a way…Thank God the wrong answer had to do with B2st because I would have picked Teen Top as the wrong name if B2st was not on that list.
At least the question were not hard xD.

  10. Why does Teen Top have to stand for something? XD Seriously…

Awws, it’s so cute that they are saying sorry when they got something wrong – because I got neither every single one right~

And Simon looks so strange though. O_o

  19. Aaaahahahahhaa, these were both wonderful! And I, too, was blissfully unaware that Teen Top actually stood for something. Oy vey, who came up with that one??

  20. This was awesome! I love Wong Fu and when you guys mentioned that you would be doing a collaboration, I was super excited. And it did not disappoint! I made my family watch and play along to your YouTubers vs Kpop English, they did not fair so well with the Gender-Bender. Now I can’t wait to make, I mean have them watch this one. :)

Also, I completely agree, Wes would be perfect in B1A4! Any ideas of which kpop group Phil should be in?

  21. AS always this was a blast to watch! I honestly COULD not believe the Teen Top one! I was SO sure that was a lie because 1 – Teen Top doesn’t seem like a name that needs an acronym. All of the others have numbers of dashes….sigh…..also 2 – Emo…really…EMO?! that does not sell well!

ANYWHO! Thanks so much sharing! Simon with Tiny baby beard makes me nostalgic already. Lol.
